Of all the rising stars why would they pick Kristen Stewart? I understand that the Twilight movies are popular, but she is a terrible actress. They could have picked any young actor, male or female, and they pick Bella from Twilight. Ridiculous.
they did not pick bella they picked kristen stewart. and she deserves it. haters to the other side
He is a hideous actor. She has one facial expression. People always mention the Cake Eaters or Speak. They may have been good movies, but she is the weak link.
Bravo! Congratulations to Carey Mulligan and Colin Firth.
They were both perfectly wonderful.
Extremely happy for Mulligan. I’m secretly hoping that Streep and Bullock split the vote and she walks away with it, but I’m not holding my breath.
Oh, and anyone who thinks Stewart won what amounts to a British MTV Movie Award (as in, a popularity contest) because of her “acting skills” and not because of Twilight is in serious denial.
I said this earlier but I think it may have gotten buried.
While I DO think The Hurt Locker is deserving, I honestly don’t believe that EVERYONE praising it or even everyone voting for it has seen it. So yeah, I think there is some groupthink going on. Let’s be honest. The film made $12 million. Just going on honest-to-God statistics, there is almost NO WAY that everyone saying how great it is and how deserving it is has actually seen it. I live in a fairly large metro area and even I had a hard time finding it in theaters last summer. And there were maybe five other people in my Friday night showing. So, yeah.
So was this the last sort nail in the coffin for Avatar’s chances at best pic?
I’m pretty sure the Oscar balloting was already closed. So while the BAFTAs may be indicative of the mood in general (a lot of BAFTA members are also MPAA members), no one’s ballot can be affected by them afterward.
Okay first of all, Twilight fans are not just teenage girls. There is actually a huge following of ladies in their twenties who are Twilight fans. Second of all, I am estatic that Kristen won. I think she deserved it. Maybe before people judge they should watch some of her other movies. I hope all you haters get your mind blown away from her when The Runaways debuts!
Oh and by the way, I am a 28 yr old woman whom loves Twilight but more for the fact that I discovered some good potential actresses and actors!
I have watched most of her other movies and I’m still not dazzled. Why do you all assume that people don’t like Kristen just because we hate Twilight and that we haven’t seen her other films?
look people!,I think everyone has a right to their opinion, likes and dislikes. Kristen isn’t that bad of an actress, I’ve seen her movies and they may have some similarities in characters. She may seem monotoned, unexpressive and unpretty in her movies but that’s the character she plays…Jodie Foster has the same facial expression, and lets out this sighes in all her movies and she’s an accademy award winner, twice,I might add,Ellen Page is a good actress but has the same facial expressions too. It all comes down to her choosing characters that don’t show a variety of anything. Management, needs to change. Also, people have formed this hate towards her, because of what she portrays outside of Hollywood, she’s not perfect and is not a cookie-cutter Hollywood type, but she made it to the big screens and is getting offers left and right, so no matter what people see or don’t see in her acting really, would not matter.
I like the Twilight books, but the movies suck and it’s mostly because of the lead actors.
Really? Give the award to a movie that won’t be remembered 10 years from now?
well now that it won, the movie will be remembered in 10 years
No it won’t. A lot of award winners are left in the dust.
Congratulations to Monique for best supporting actress.
Congratulations to Kristen Stewart for the rising star award.
Congratulations to Carey Mulligan for best actress.
To be honest I don’t think Carey has a good chance. Oscar is all about ratings and the American public really have no clue who Carey is and I must say her people have not done a good job at promoting her or the movie. Also I think IB got robbed for best screenplay…
do you realize that Kathryn Bigelow may be the first woman to ever got an oscar for best director, better late than never
You know I saw The Hurt Locker and while I think it is pretty good (kept me anxious the whole time) I wasn’t really left with a blown away feeling more like ehh yea that was a ok movie. I must say that I was more impressed by IB and don’t hate me for this…Avatar.
Cameron won 2 for Avatar and none for Titanic (we know that movie didn’t win any Oscars!!!) BAFTA’s Best Picture rarely matches Oscars as they go for the little picture that no one saw and or wants too! If the Hurt Locker wins several Oscars over Avatar then the AMPAS can see itself sinking like the Titanic in 2011 as no one in their right mind will pay any attention to their awards ever again!!!
This is a little off topic, but does anyone know where this year’s Vanity Fair Oscar Party will be held?
Colin Firth yeah!!!!! Finally
