smurfs-movieImage Credit: Harris: Chris Hatcher/PR Photos; Smurfs: Everett CollectionHe won’t be blue. He won’t even be CG’d. But Neil Patrick Harris will star in Sony Pictures’ Smurfs movie. The studio confirmed online reports that the How I Met Your Mother star will live among the blue people. Harris will play an expectant father who has his life turned upside down upon meeting these creatures. The film, set to begin shooting in April, will be directed by Raja Gosnell, the man behind Beverly Hills Chihuahua. It will take place in New York City’s Central Park.

I don’t know how they think this can make money…

The sad truth is that it probably will make money.

The taste level of American filmgoers isn’t very high. Nearly haf the country voted for Palin as V.P. I mean, really.

      • Lazy Smurf

Shut up you pretentious asshat. Don’t bring politics into a discussion about Smurfs

  • Mimi

The screenwriters of this have written Shrek and All Dogs Go To Heaven, so I actually have some hope fot it.

Then again, I’d watch NPH read the phone book on broadcast television, so…

    • joe

I’ll second that, I’d watch NPH pick his nose and I’d think it’s amazing…

  • Mimi

… though I honestly believe that this movie is being made for Ausiello alone.

  • Happy me

A bit off topic but,I like NPH but seriously it is becoming to much now. Enough. I get Hollywood likes to use him to claim they hire gay males for lead roles when they don’t they only use him as the token gay male pick for every magazine every list every role. However he is everywhere lately and it is over kill even if I adore the man.

never too much NPH, its basically his first headlining movie role since purple people eater, congrats NPH

sounds horrible smurfs should be in smurf village, they are not staying true to smurf mythology, this will be fred claus bad

    • Nic.

Why can’t Smurf Village be hidden somewhere in Central Park? I’m looking forward to the movie.

    • minespatch

I kind of hoped that the land the Smurfs would be transported in was modern day Belgium. This way we get to experience another culture while being in the same country the Smurfs were created.

Sadly, people feel that things need to be Americanized rather than be open to different cultures.

  • madd

This sounds odd, but…Smurfs and NPH are two of my favorite things.

  • KAH

The Smurfs in NYC? Directed by the guy behind Beverly Hills Chihuahua? REALLY?!?!?!

  • Stefan

    .. WHAT?!

  • Kelly

Wait…I thought Ausiello was kidding. Seriously, NPH?

  • Dinjab

Are we going to see some hot NPH/Vanity Smurf action?

  • james

This sounds like a disaster but NPH is too good to associate himself with a bomb right? I hope?!

  • Dontae

NO!! i thought they where going to say hes going to play Gargamel hahaha..
