What was the writer thinking?
This is one of the more surprising things I’ve read today.
Is this a joke?
I’m not surprised. This is a way for them to bleed an old series into an ill-advised franchise. They’re trying to do the same with Marmaduke…
And Marmaduke is a dick.
God! Next thing they’ll do is Casper the friendly ghost and Dennis the Menace!LOL.Bad ideas. I also heard Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg are working on making Tin Tin movies.
I bet it’s because of Avatar’s immense popularity.
This news sucks!!! Granted The Chipmunks and its sequel was a huge financial success in its cg/live action format but in my opinion, The Smurfs would be better off as a 3D animated film. Putting the smurfs in the “real world” quite frankly is just plain stupid. With its vast cast of characters, the smurfs marketing and merchandising potential would be damn near limitless. But taking The Smurfs out of the realm of animated fantasy and putting them in Central Park pretty much negates the possibility of seeing all of those characters many of us grew up loving. Guess we can say goodbye to Johan, Pee Wee, Homnibus, Big Mouth, Hogatha the witch, Balthazar and maybe even Gargamel, Azrael, plus countless others. Sony is making a huge mistake on this one. I wish Dreamworks or Disney could have bought the rights to the smurfs because only then would we have seen a proper screen treatment. There goes another childhood franchise ruined by Hollywood!
Wasn’t the plot of this movie already done on South Park?
NPH is going to be in WHAT?!?
It’s just like the inspired idea, since Disney’s Enchanted and even crossover live-action and animation. Set in New York where Smurfs middle ages Smurfland and Gargamel’s house are setting in New York City Central Park where they encounter them. Behind every park’s woods. When New York City meets the Middle Ages world!
Hank Azaria as the evil wizard Gargamel, chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village and they tumble from their magical world into ours – in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down. Said in the movie smummery. And even I was saying that the evil cat of Gargamel, Azrael will be in the movie? If not, it will be disoppointing to spoiled the fans!
So it’s basically going to be like Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Its the Simpson vocie actor is playing Gargamel. And this is a miracle to have the Smurfs in our hearts so positive-popular since Hanna-Barbara brought to created an first Belgain-American television cartoon serie since 1981, when Terry Gilliams’ film, Time Bandits was always released before September 1982 where I was born since Tron and E.T. the alien was released in July of 1982.
