Honestly, I don’t think they were exploiting anything. The truth is many of us have forgotten what happened that day, and the lives it destroyed and what those families and loved ones went thru. We need to remember our past, thus the title of the movie.

Forgotten? Oh, really? I know some people with PTSD and night terrors stemming from that day that you should talk to. They sure as heck haven’t forgotten, no matter dearly they wish they could. Go get a clue.

Unfortunately, outside of the tri-state area, forgotten isn’t too far off. People have not literally ‘forgotten’ that day, but the feelings it invoked? They are fading – absolutely. That’s why this film was so powerful, and necessary, at least to me.

I loved the movie ,good story line , great acting.

I have not revealed the kick-ass ending to anyone. It will ruin the movie for them. I think it should not be discussed until the movie comes out on DVD. It’s hard but that seems to be the only solution. I mean it just came out Friday so give people a chance to see it for themselves!

I loved this movie until the end. I feel that if a movie is based on a factual event, then it should not involve fictional characters! Just like Titanic, which was barely about the actual ship, and more a love story between two fictional people or weren’t even on the it. Unless the character’s in this film are based on real people, then I think it ruins the entire movie. Film makers don’t need to manipulate American emotions just by putting 9/11 in their movie. They could’ve achieved the same ending without involving something that truly happened in real life! Either entirely fictional, or entirely factional…

    • MW

@Robbed I think it was exactly the point of the film. How many people went to work that day, went to an appointment, went to a meeting – just people leaving their loved ones in the morning and going about their day only to be completely and totally devastated – blindsided by what happened that day. If you go into that movie knowing it’s a film about what happened, you don’t feel the same impact IMO. I think it’s important to remember that, to feel that. I keep defending this movie and at times I feel like the only one that GETS what they were trying to do. I walked away thinking and feeling things I had let fade away a bit. It has stayed with me and it needed to…

I saw Remember Me about 3 hours ago and am not sure how I feel about it. Not having been in New York at the time but having loved ones who were–one friend had moved from her temp job at the WTC a week or two before–I can’t speak for the many whose lives were affected–only myself. After watching this movie I don’t think that it was exploitive. I do feel, however, that all the signs were there that told you what was going to happen. It was the first thought that popped into my head when I saw “Ten years later”. The thoughts moved to the back of my mind once I was drawn in to the different relationships in the film. Like I said I cannot speak for anyone but myself, but I feel that it was tastefully done. As far as whether or not the film’s ending should have been spoiled, I think that it should not have been presented as a “twist” or “surprise”. I think that anyone who was involved with promoting or reviewing this movie should have been more compassionate or had the forethought to let it be known that this movie may not be for all. How you do that is beyond me, but it should have been done. And I will say for the record that Rob Pattinson did a good job. If anyone wants to know how people eloquently reacted to this movie, you should go over to IMDB and read some of the reviews, but especially the one by VanessaLoveJoy.

    Thanks for your time.

Watched this my with girl last night. We are two Australians living in Perth, and I was 12 years old and remember when the planes crashed it was about 2am, and my mum was crying and mumbling things about another world war, I didn’t understand what all the drama was about.

Watching this movie, and only having prior knowledge revealed in the trailer placed myself in a really awesome seat. The story within the movie was extremely engaging, the music and just the way it felt all contributed hugely to that. You could feel it as if that was you, that you were there or if not, that you were relating so deeply to it. Then suddenly, just as things start to come together, it all falls dramatically apart. I finally understood the tragedy that American’s felt. You could tell everyone was affected in our cinema, as no one left for quite a while, we were all just struck, sunken into or seats sobbing. As if we lost someone. It was truly priceless.

Thanks for the great movie, and I am definitely doing all I can to recommend it to friends. Good luck in the future. And hope this is a little bit more of a life boat you can hold onto.

    Absolutely touched,
    - Ben

This movie for me was great. Yes, it did have a shock at the end but it gave you plenty of warning that it was going to happen, I mean look at the title its called Remember Me and I also think that the “shock” at the end of the movie was tastefully done. Honestly, critics suck because a lot of people didn’t like this movie but it my opinion it was great..I was also suprised with Robert Pattinson’s performance in the movie he was FANTASTIC!

I’m surprised that people complained that you’re original review contained spoilers. I wasn’t the least bit surprised about the ending. The film helpfully provided the audience with dates — made a pretty big show of letting us know that we were in New York City in the months leading up to September 11th. By the final act, it was almost uncomfortably clear not just that 9/11 was coming, but that Rob Pattison was going to be the movie’s sacrificial lamb.

In my opinion, this ending wasnt exploitative or distasteful at all. It may not have been an ending we were all expecting to have gone with the storyline but there is a message in it and the ending reminds us of the terror we went through that fateful day. We all remember what we were doing back then, probably what we were doing in the exact moments it happened. This ending, which has been used in so many other movies, depicts part of our history that none of us will forget. And this story is just the storyline of ONE person.

All of our lives have been moved in many different ways due to the events on 9/11. There were so many people who died on that day and every one of them had a story to tell. The events in this movie have a purpose.

For those of you who think this movie was distasteful or exploitative, maybe you should think about that. Think about all those people and their families. Think about all their stories. This, fiction or not, is just one of the thousands.

And I also think that for Robert Pattinson’s first role portraying a normal human being, he did a good job.

Still worth seeing this brave and thoughtful film. Hard to see how they could have put more spoilers in the trailer, they really tried: sad music, fights, Gandhi quote, blowing out candles at the end, name of the movie. I think it’s just one of those films that isn’t “marketable”. I admire everyone involved for trying to preserve the original intent of the script.

The movie was great. One thing I like to add to some comments here is that…I understand why some people were upset about the ending and hated it. I think its mostly people who expereinced 9/11 in some way who didn’t appreciate the ending. However, I don’t think people should be upset about that. I was sexually abused, which was very traumatic, but I didn’t say I hated “Precious” or any other movie about sexual abuse or had sexual abuse in it. I actually feel comforted that I am not the only one when I see or hear other peoples stories. I’m sure people who were killed or injured by 9/11 attacks didn’t expect it that day, just like the movie, ending was unexpected. All those people in 9/11 had stories. Every single one of them. Why couldn’t the story in Remember Me happen? All kinds of traumatic things happen to people on a daily bases. It doesnt have to be caused by terroist to make it more special than any body elses traumatic expereinces. So chill people.

What does one say, another gifted performance by robert with no trace of edward to be seem. Truely a heart felt struggle in life with loving gentleness and tenderness through the good and bad they were forced to deal with. I have already alerted my facebook list of contacts with a must watch movie alert for REMEMBER ME , and to reply back when they finished watching it. in closing all I can say is another true to life performance well done robert, you have my utmost respect as an actor. as for the other question asked in your review, “it was a day I will never forget” after watching the ending of the movie for the fifth time before it knocked me right upside my head!!!
