My favorite Snipes role was in “One Night Stand”. I actually thought he would get an Oscar nomination for that and I still think that it is a shame that it didn’t happen.
I agree, Wesley Snipes is a brilliant actor. From what I’m hearing about Brooklyln’s Finest is that the acting is excellent but the story is just okay. I hope Wesley gets more and more work, he really deserves it.
I recently saw brooklyn’s finest & agree the wesley snipe was pretty effective in the role. He reminds me of many men I see (black, white & hispanic) who 4 whatever reason decided that hustling offered them an avenue of opportunity that was not available 2 them else where. I thought the fact that none of those characters in that movie looked particuarly healthy (I wanted 2 express feed ethan hawkes character a sand which) lent 2 the fact that even if some1 believes selling is their only choice it comes with many, many consequences. I saw so many faces in wesley’s character & I’m sure his personal troubles added 2 what he brought 2 that film….
And he has an amazing range: To Wong Foo with Love, Rising Sun, Money Train
love him in new jack city.he is a nicer guy in finest.like him in passenger 57 and white men cant jump-listen to the woman
He was great in Passenger 57. I wish him well.
Just curious Owen, who do we believe? You say go see this movie, Lisa gives it a C and says “the clichés keep coming.” Mixed signals from EW…
I love him in “To Wong Fu, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar”
blade was his best moment and he was also great in jungle fever.
I am always disappointed when I see actors like Snipes who, I feel, waste their talent away on ‘paycheck films’. I feel the same way about Vince Vaughn, who I think is funny as hell in his comedic roles, but I remember when he first burst on the scene after ‘Swingers’ and he did some very good dramatic indie films (i.e. Just Your Luck, The Locusts, A Cool Dry Place, Return to Paradise, and Clay Pigeons) and I remember reading in EW about how he had a Brando-esque quality and I couldn’t wait to see where his career would go. I guess it was the ill advised role as Norman Bates in the ‘Psycho’ remake in 1998 that torpedoed his dramatic career, because ever since he has essentially been playing the ‘Trent Walker’ character in ever movie since and I really hope he moves back into dramatic roles and I don’t mean ‘Domestic Disturbances 2′! This does pertain Snipes in that he too was great in those early dramatic roles (i.e. New Jack City, Mo Better Blues, To Wong Foo..) and I am tired of those damn ‘Blade’ sequels. ‘Brooklyn’s Finest’ is the first Snipes film since ‘U.S. Marshals’ that I will pay to see, we’ll see if it’s worth it.
This Snipes thing is a big f****** deal ! can I go back to getting drunk now ?
Snipes has always been one of my favourite actors. the Blade sequels could also have been as good as the first one if he got more role in and word over them.. keep the movies comin Wesley!
Love so many of his performances – Rising Sun, Jungle Fever, New Jack City, One Night Stand, Money Train, The Waterdance, etc… even Murder at 1600. Snipes is a born leading man with a universal appeal that transcends color and the usual cliches that burden other African American stars. He has natural charisma, a dark, enigmatic complexity, and oodles of talent. I hope Brooklyn’s Finest revives Hollywood’s interest in him. And I hope Spike Lee gets the finance to make his film with Snipes in the lead. WS is overdue for some serious respect. Here’s wishing him nothing but the best.
