I still don’t think they need to remake this, just like hairspray. 80′s movies are great for their campiness, you can’t do better than that. But if they need to continue, I think they should cast Andrew Seeley. He was in Another Cinderella Story and wrote some of the songs for one or more of the HS musicals.
Julianne Hough doesn’t look like a high schooler. Would be wiser to expand the nationwide search for a younger star. If this movie is going to appeal to the HSM set the high schoolers need to be relatable to kids. Nothing about Dancing With the Stars screams “youth” to me.
There is no need for a remake of “Footloose”. It’s blasphemy! I curse it!

Why not consider Derek Hough?? He could pull of the role of Kevin Bacon! He and Julieanne would make an excellant remake!!
I said it a year ago, and I’ll say it again. Derek Hough was born to play the role of Ren in a remake of FOOTLOOSE! He already played the role in a London theatrical version to great acclaim. He’s the same age as Kevin Bacon when Kevin made the movie. Derek is also a superb dancer and choreographer. Though his sister has already been cast as the romantic lead, she can easily be replaced (it’s not much of a role anyway, and did nothing for Lori Singer’s career). I’m all for a remake of FOOTLOOSE, but this time let’s get it right! Paging Derek Hough . . . !
How much money did the remake of “Fame” make for the studio? (very little I would guess) Footloose seems to be a very similar property.

I’ve said from day one that the main role should have been filled by Derek Hough. Julianne is IMHO expendable. He’s already played Rex in the UK, his dancing is second to none, he has the singing ability.
If they can cut Julianne I really think they need to do what they should have from day one and cast Derek in the lead! (if they insist on remaking it of course. I too agree it’s a classic as is).
Remakes are what is being done these days, sometimes you just cant stop progress. I finally seen the movie all the way through and it is a good movie for the 80s but sometimes they try to get the kids of my generation (Im 18) into stuff like that. And using Chace from GG would have been great just like them remaking “The Stepfather” with Penn. It sucks that he can’t do it because I SOOOO wanted to see him dance
but eh, now that he’s not doing I don’t want them to make it. lol.
