Seth MacFarlane's film debut? A comedy about a man and his Teddy bear

Only Seth MacFarlane could get away with an R-rated feature film about a man and his Teddy bear. The Family Guy creator is working out a deal with Universal Pictures and financiers Media Rights Capital about such a movie, titled Ted. MacFarlane, who pulls triple duty on American Dad, Family Guy and The Cleveland Show, would direct the film, his first feature, by year’s end if the deal can be sealed. He would also provide the voice for the CG-animated teddy bear, who comes between the guy and his girlfriend. The script, from MacFarlane and Family Guy writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, centers on a seemingly normal man who, as a child, made a wish that he could talk to his bear, only to have his bear come alive. The bear grows up alongside the man and their relationship isn’t really questioned until the man’s girlfriend poses an ultimatum: her or the bear. Who would play the girlfriend? Sources tell EW.com that MacFarlane wants to cast his pal Mila Kunis (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), who has voiced Meg Griffin on Family Guy since 1999.

I somehow like the whole idea, but i’m afraid it may go overboard since it is MacFarlane.

  • Katy

    That sounds really creepy.

This has nothing to do with whatever this strange, but probably interesting movie is about but: I was watching an episode of Gilmore Girls and I saw Seth MacFarlane in it. He was in Loralei’s graduating class from business school. It was so cool to see him act in person. Anyway, this movies seems strange, but Seth could make it work!

He was also in the pilot episode of “Flash Forward”. I thought he was supposed to be a semi-regular, but I guess not, as I’ve not seen him return.

    • minor spoiler

He was in last week’s episode 4/8/10 ,but his chracter got shot and appears to be dead.

    • nivrad

watch the latest episode of flashforward, he’s back for that one

      • WereRogue

You know, as soon as I posted that I thought “Sure. Now someone’s going to come back and say he gets killed in the latest episode!” That’s what I get for thinkin’, huh? I haven’t watched this season because I’m afraid it’s going to get canceled. Got ‘em all on DVR, though, just in case.

He also appeared in “Enterprise,” the most recent Star Trek series.

“Only Seth MacFarlane could get away with an R-rated feature film about a man and his Teddy bear.”

    C’mon, you’re better than that.

  • ggny

soo this movie is gonna be about Stewie in his 20s?

    • rebecca

haha!!! I think Stewie will choose Rupert!

      • dustin

lol… with Mila Kunis in the movie, he will be choosing between Rupert and Meg

    • Marcus

I was totally thinking the same thing with Rupert haha I hope its good it sounds like it should be

  • film buff

I’m getting sick of Seth MacFarlene bashing entertainers that are more successful than him. I think he has an inferiority complex.

    • hugo

who do you have in mind? any examples?

    • dave

More succesfull than him? Do you have any idea how much he is worth??

      • Toady

        You’re right. He’s just a hack and a douche.

  • film buff

He does it all the time in ‘Family Guy’.

  • MJ

If it’s an R-rated MacFarlane movie, it will be all kinds of wrong. Can’t. Wait.

    • BTH

All kinds of wrong is probably an understatement and I’m so there!

  • Shane

This premise sounds similar to Drop Dead Fred, which is ALSO in development with Russell Brand!

  • Brambo

If Mila Kunis is going to play the girlfriend, MacFarlane might as well keep it in house as get Seth Green to play the main character! LOL

Film buff – That’s what makes his shows hilarious! If you don’t like it just watch something else. :)

And Icon – I *hope* it goes overboard, that’s what MacFarlane’s humour is known for!

    • Toady

      You’re right, he’s a genius.

To come up with a story about a guy and his talking animal best friend… so original! He’s never done that before, certainly not THREE other times.

Comedy brilliance! You think that’s bad… this reminds me of the time me and He-Man were hunting Sarah Jessica Parker!

  • dscottla

Seth is progressing…Stewie with his teddy bear Rupert…”and even a (real bear)
    on The Cleveland Show…

  • dscottla

Too much fantasy… possible for a regular guy to hook up with a real human bear, Seth?!!! Snuggle with Seth, oh so NICE

  • dscottla

Seth I need you, I want you, I love you. ;)

  • O’Malley

If loving your teddy bear is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
