Kristen Stewart squeezes Walter Salles 'On the Road' in between 'Twilight' duties

Kristen Stewart, the reluctant Twilight megastar, has managed to fit another indie film into her busy schedule. Sources confirm to that Stewart will play Marylou, Dean Moriarty’s young wife in the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road. Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries) will direct and filming will begin August 1 in New Orleans and Montreal. Timing works perfectly for Stewart, who is currently ensconced in publicity duties for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and is set to begin production on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn in October.

Garrett Hedlund, the star of Disney’s upcoming sci-fi actioner Tron: Legacy, will play the restless drifter Moriarty while British thespian Sam Riley (24 Hour Party People) portrays his traveling companion Sal. USA Today first reported the news yesterday.

French financier MK2 International is funding the production.

yes the second kstew was cast, too bad

Why oh why is “K-Stew” the indie go-to? I swear she can’t act at all… and I have seen almost everything she has been in. What am I missing?

you should see “speak”, personally i think that’s her best performance ever. i dont like her as bella though….

      • @rush

She was like 12 in speak. If that’s the only movie she was good in and it came out 8 years ago, then everyone who disses her acting (which a lot of people do) are 100% correct. You’re supposed to get better as you get older, not worse.

I suppose to respond to @rush, but I can’t find a “Reply” button.

You are wrong. Kristen has been also praised by the film critics, who got paid for their professional opinions, for her recent roles such as Into The Wild, Adventureland, The Runaways, and Welcome to The Rileys. A lot of people, who dislike her acting, also look for to bash her personal life with some nonsense comments. So, those are not true and countable answers. By the ways, there are thousands of fans not only in US, in UK, but in Brazil and else where as well that really admire her acting.

You are a liar because no one spends her time to watch all movies if she doesn’t like actress’s acting that much.

In case you’re missing. Kristen has received good praise with Speak, Into The Wild, Adventureland, and recently The Runaways and Welcome To The Rileys.

You are missing something.. While as almost any young actor/actress Kristen has to learn a lot especially for new types of characters she is going to play, she was great in a lot of movies. Cake eaters, Runaways, Into the wild performances were her best so far, she even managed turn absolutely. lame Bella’s character into decent one. All those cryers spewing venom like “She can’t act!!! She is horrible” obviously didn’t see anything and resenting her to be so young and megastar already plus digging into her personal life… Chill out, time will tell. Also, she is reluctant megastar, I’m glad she earned all these money and now can do whatever she wants. And she wants thoughtfull smart movies indie or not.. She is all set for the life.. Live with that Kristen’s haters…

Why are there two separate articles about the same topic??

“On The Road” is an amazing book, best seller in Times magazine for a long time. I can’t wait to see Kristen in this movie. This is a great role and a great opportunity to work with a great director.

Kristen has been praised for her performance, most recently is the Joan Jett in The Runaways. She is great in it, so does Dakota.

  • michelle

OMG. “On The Road” is one of the great books of Jack Kerouac. No doubt that Kristen will nail this role. I watch The Runaways recently, she is really great in it.

  • Jim

I hope they make a good movie at least with kristen stewart in it my grandkids will learn about jack kerouac. Being a old joan jett fan kristen was great in the runaways, but its the guys who will carry the load, do do kerouac justice. Jim from Lowell MA

I’m 25. As soon as I heard about this movie. I go to pick up the book and read. It’s a great book.

You’re right, Kristen is great in The Runaways. In “On The Road”, Garrett Hedland will play a husband Dean and Kristen will play Mary Lou, his wife. Sam Riley, English actor will play Dean’s friend, Sal. Can’t wait to see this movie.
