Commander Shepard is coming to the big screen. The elite soldier–and star of the hit sci-fi video game Mass Effect–is getting a feature film on top of his successful games series. For Legendary Pictures has signed a deal with Electronic Arts and Bioware for the property and they are in talks with writer Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) to draft a screenplay based on the epic game. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce the movie with Avi and Ari Arad. The centerpiece of the game is Shepard and his team’s mission to defeat an ancient alien race that invades the galaxy every 50,000 years.

Matthew Fox needs to be cast as Commander Shepard
Absolutely.
Wow that’s perfect. He even looks kinda like the iconic Shepard from the game. Of course, he’d go from playing Jack Shephard to John Shepard.
He would bring emotion and action to the character plus it would be a better choice then casting someone that we’ve already seen in a lot of action movies
Hey, I played a female Shepard. Maybe they will go with a woman, a la Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver). We need a good female action hero.
Matthew Fox would be a great fit for Shepard
Seth Green as Joker anyone?
You think?
lol
Miranda need to be in the first movie. Also, Wrex.
And they should cast Yvonne Strahovski.
I’m sure they’ll screw it up…
I’m all for Mathew Fox playing Commander Shepard. That sounds perfect to me. And not just because of the name “Shepard,” but because Foxy has the right look and the acting chops to pull it off. He’d be a lot better choice than the typical studio pick of Sam Worthington.
You absolutely would have to have Seth Green play Joker as well. I would also maybe use a mix of characters from both games. Garrus and Wrex are a must, but I would also like to have Miranda as well (over say Ashley).
I love the Mass Effect games, especially the second. Not sure if I love this news. How are you going to pack 30+ hours of game play into a single movie? Given the track record of other movies based on video games, this does not bode well.
Cross your fingers that they make this a trilogy and follow the games. Also, it looks like Bioware Executives will be a part of the production.
I love the games, but I’m wary of this news. Part of the fun with a game like this is YOU determine what happens and how. A lot of the game changes based on how you play including who lives and who dies. Now there’s going to be a “definitive” version. As awesome as it will be to see these characters and stories brought to life, it can’t compete with “my” Shepard.
I have ALWAYS thought Matthew Fox would be a great Shep. In fact I almost felt like he had to have influenced the character design somehow (what with the Lost-like name and similar look).
I would love to see this done well. I just pray that they don’t screw it up
