Oscar-nominated actor Stanley Tucci has signed on to star as Dr. Abraham Erskine in Captain America: The First Avenger opposite Chris Evans and Hugo Weaving. In the early comic books, Erskine was a German scientist behind Project Rebirth, the secret experiment that turned Steve Rogers into the Super Soldier. Joe Johnston is directing the film, which is currently shooting in London.
Tucci most recently co-starred in Julie & Julia and The Lovely Bones. He can next be seen in the upcoming comedy Easy A starring Emma Stone, and the movie musical Burlesque with Christina Aguilera and Cher.

Great actor, awesome news.
Now all this movie needs is Doc Jensen!
this cast just keeps getting better!!!
Except Chris Evans. Horrible Captain.
Fantastic.
Stanley Tucci and Hugo Weaving are great actors. I’m glad they’re onboard to class up a movie that most people will only see for the action. I still don’t agree with Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, though…
I agree. Thumbs up for Tucci and Weaving. Chris Evans was fine as Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four — he played the “hot-headed” carefree danger-addict quite well. But now we’re talking the upright, steadfast, noble First Avenger! I’m not saying it’s impossible, but I haven’t observed this range from Evans before. Maybe he’ll surprise us — let’s hope so.
Don’t forget Tommy Lee Jones
You’re that Salmon girl, right? So creepy in that one.
