Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds to reunite on new action comedy

the-proposalImage Credit: Kerry HayesEW has learned exclusively that Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds are reuniting on a new action comedy, tentatively titled Most Wanted. The project, a pitch from The Proposal screenwriter Peter Chiarelli, was purchased by Universal Pictures on Friday. Sources say the studio paid $1 million for it after winning a bidding war over four other parties. They are currently negotiating with The Proposal director Anne Fletcher to helm the film. The storyline for the movie revolves around a criminal (Bullock) being escorted to court by a U.S. Marshall (Reynolds). Both are ambushed on the way and are forced to go on the run. Mandeville Films, the company behind The Proposal, will produce. Ryan Reynolds will executive produce with his partner Jonathan Komack Martin.

Will Bullock and Reynolds be the next Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, who reunited in Nora Ephron’s You’ve Got Mail back in 1998 after their stunning success together in Ephron’s Sleepless in Seattle? Bullock has been on hiatus since her big Oscar win earlier this year while Reynolds’ schedule couldn’t be busier: The comedic actor is currently shooting The Green Lantern in Louisiana and is next scheduled to star in The Change-Up opposite Jason Bateman.

Sounds a bit like the Bounty Hunter, only with actors I like

    • eskeigh

      My thoughts exactly, haha.

      • jimmyjo

Haha, EXACTLY what I thought! Sandra B. is not a one-act pony like Jennifer A, she doesn’t rely on hair flipping and short skirts call that acting. And Ryan is definitely more likeable that sloppy Gerard B.

      • ck

Yes! I read this and thought it was like that movie that just came out but I’ve already forgotten the name and who was in it. Isn’t it a little soon for a reunion though? Sleepless in Seattle/You’ve Got Mail and Pretty Woman/Runaway Bride came out like 10 yrs apart.

    • wooster182

      HA!

    • Clayton

      Ditto

    • Tajah

LOL! Awesome! Yeah, they both are fantastic. This might actually be a good movie!

    • Sally in Chicago

Why isn’t Sandra producing? She normally producers her movies.

    • Kat

x3! What I thought. Love Sandy and Ryan. They rock.

      • avenger

Yeeeaaahhh! I love these two together and I loved the Proposal

    • Torrin

It sounds more like a PG-13 version of “The Gauntlet”. Less foul language, less violence and a lot less Clint Eastwood.

      • brue

Less of any of those things is never a good thing.

    • Rosalie

I love Sandra! The best thing about her is that she goes away after her movies. I loved premonition, it is probably my favorite film with her starting. Anyhow, she needs to go away for a year or twon and then come back so she can remain fresh in our eyes.

  • Dustin

Am I the only one who still sees Sandra Bullock as Not Great! Shes good, but not great. Not Oscar worthy. She got a raw deal, but so has alot of actresses.

    • Eric

No you’re not the only one. She garnered a lot of sympathy over the last several months but I don’t think anyone would confuse her as being one of our greatest actresses. Regardless of her win for Blind Side she’s still known for making mostly sappy romantic comedies. She can be quite good in them but we’re obviously not talking Meryl Streep here.

      • Jen Jen

Crash, 28 Days, Premonition . . . just to name a few that aren’t sappy romantic comedies.

      • Sally in Chicago

She’s good box office, right now about the only female that can open besides Streep.

      • Jason

Speed, Speed 2: Cruise Control, Demolition Man…

      • Will

Speed 2 was an epic failure along with Premonition. Crash was a good movie but Bullock had a supporting role in it. And the only female that can open besides Streep? Um..All About Steve? That movie bombed.

      • Bruce

You forgot “LakeHouse” with Keeuna Reeves. That was one of my favorites.

      • Marosek

Love Meryl but did you see her in “Death Becomes Her” with Bruce Willis & Goldie Hawn?? Definitely not one her best by a long shot. Everyone is allowed a bad movie or two.

      • Dustin

Crash, 28 Days, Premonition,Speed 2 cruise control are AWFUL POS’ THAT ARE AWFUL. Demolition Man ruled because of Snipes, Stallone and Leary. Speed was all Hopper/Reeves.

      • bekki

she doesn’t do romantic comedies anymore. she only does if she likes the script. she thinks the majority of them are too cheesey and are all the same nowadays! but She’s amahzing…so just shut up. there are some really rubbish actors who win stuff! she’s really good…and she’s also human. she has her problems but can come back from them! and she admits it when a film goes bad. she isn;t afraid to admit it, even though it could ruin her career!

    • Nathan

The Oscar was a bit of a sympathy vote, but nothing compared to the Taylor Swift Album of the Year sympathy vote, that was simply ridiculous.

      • k

        ditto

      • captain canuck

How was it a sympathy vote?
The cheating scandal happened after she won the Oscar.

      • Riss

She won the Oscar before anyone knew Jesse had cheated, therefore it can’t possibly be called a sympathy vote. She really does have a lot of range, she’s just better known for her romantic comedies. Watch her performance in Crash and tell me she’s not a great actress.

      • Bruce

“All About Steve” was a weird movie. But I think she did a good job portraying the character in that movie. Can’t imagine why she even did it except for the message of the movie.

      • brue

Amen with the tayler swift most albums sold should not always equal album of the year. It’s like people just pretend that her live show are not just embarrasingly, cringe worthy, can hardly sit through terrible!!

    • Mary Jane

I would not use the term Sympathy” vote as the scandal broke after. But she did have the biggest campaign for the award. All the talk shows, picking up the Razzi, interviews etc. To me, she got the award for what is basically a Lifetime Network movie of the week. I agree that she is getting the sympathy vote now though–two awards in one weekend? Was she really the best in a generation? Doubtful. She seems like a nice person, but enough already and this movie sounds like nothing new at all. She is going back into her comfort zone of RomComs.

    • Lynn

I think she realizes this too. In her Oscar speech she said that she knew this was a one time thing for her.

  • Eric

Yeah I was thinking the same thing? Im glad Bullock is getting back to work but hasn’t this kind of movie been done several times already?

  • RK

Not only are they constantly recycling romcom cliches, now they are recycling the actors. And idiots will still pay for it.

    • Clayton

You say “now” like it’s a new thing for the genre, but it’s a part of romcom history. Just think of Hepburn and Grant, or Hudson and Day. People enjoy seeing couples that work act together time and time again.

      • hannah86

I wouldn’t call it recycling actors. It sounds like a bad thing. They’re using chemistry that works. Why force actors together that don’t click? We could have all used more Paul Newman and Robert Redford team-ups. I would be pissed if Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers only ever danced together once!

  • graeme

I’m still waiting to hear about the Sandra Bullock/Meryl Streep comedy that must be in the works!

    • llevinso

      That would be great!

  • John brogan

They have great chemistry together buut its not really sexual chemistry. she is too old for him

    • Bruce

I can imagine alot of younger guys who would like to be romanticallly involved with Sandra. Ryan is younger but he act mature enough for Sandra.

One thing about Sandra is the range of her looks. In Proposal with her hair tied back and black eye liners she looked 45. But in the wedding dress with her hair down and lighter makeup light lipstick, she could pass for 25.

  • Go Sandy

It’s a testament to Sandy’s enduring hotness and appeal that it takes a man a dozen years younger than her to have great screen chemistry.

    • GerryGones

The unfortunate thing is she and Ryan Reynolds did not have a lick of chemistry in that dumb film.

      • llevinso

        Disagree.

      • alia

Disagree also. I thought they were HOT together in The Proposal, and I’ll definitely be seeing this one, too! Plus, I don’t care for the “she’s too old for him” attitude. I think it’s a bit sexist.

      • mike b

Obviously you didn’t see the movie because they had great chemistry together.

  • GerryGones

This sounds absolutely atrocious. Sandra Bullock is a crappy actress, I don’t care how nice she is, and this sounds exactly like The Bounty Hunter. Isn’t she getting too old for this crap? She’s like 47 years old.

So I guess it is safe to say that the Oscar did not make her want to challenge or stretch herself as an actress, she’s back to making the same lame stupid films she was making before. Perhaps she’ll win herself another Razzie.

  • wooster182

Find a way to throw Hugh Grant and Keanu Reeves in there and we’ve got ourselves a ball game.

    • graeme

Yeah, I’m still waiting for her to team up with Hugh Grant again. They were awesome together. And she could pull him out of the downward spiral he’s on (my god, “The Morgans” was a brutal film).

      • wooster182

But he was adorable in it. There’s only so much that can be done with Sarah Jessica Parker’s annoying temperament.

  • Lola

I love Sandra and all, but for the love of God WHYYYYYYYYY does she always do rom-coms?! She was amazing in the Blind Side, she needs to branch out more!

    • graeme

The Proposal was her first rom-com in 7 years!

  • Jenny

YAY!!! I love these two!!! I would totally go see this movie!

  • Sarah

    I’ll be watching! :D

  • Aaliyah

Sounds like all of the other rom-com flops this year (Bounty Hunter, Killers, Did You Hear About The Morgans), annoying couple goes on the run and remains incredibly annoying while doing so.

  • LOL

The plot of this sounds beyond tired.

  • Mo

Sandy has said before she knows people don’t take her seriously as an actress but she laughs all the way to the bank! Good for her, I’d take a couple million to do a romcom if someone was offering!

    • Missy

And it’s probably more than a couple million – I think she’d get $10-15 million for this, if not more. And that’s just the up-front, guaranteed salary.
