Universal has confirmed with EW that Tony Gilroy, the writer for all three Jason Bourne films, will be writing a script for a fourth film. Producers Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley are also returning to the film — tentatively titled The Bourne Legacy — as are Captive Entertainment’s Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith. One Bourne alum not currently on board? Matt Damon, who has said he would not return to the franchise without director Paul Greengrass. Universal has not yet confirmed with EW whether or not Damon will star in Legacy. The studio, however, is aiming for a 2012 release.

If Matt Damon doesn’t get on board, then they really shouldn’t make the film. Why ruin such a classic trilogy with a shoddy fourth movie? Not that it hasn’t been done before, but I hope that Hollywood crassness knows some limits.
Not watching it unless Matt Damon is in…. he IS Jason Bourne. Anyone else in that role would be unacceptable.
You need to watch the original with Richard Chamberlain-GREAT and it even followed the book
Yes I finally got copies of BI and BS in hardcover…the original stories. I cannot believe how not Jason Bourne the movies are. Although I like the movies, cant say Im looking forward to a new one since I know it will have nothing to do with the book.

Every aspect of these movies is great, but a 4th movie without Damon would not be a good idea…

I know lots of folks think there’s no one else that can play Jason Bourne but Matt Damon and I truly hope he DOES come back – but – many people thought only Sean Connery could play James Bond. The original 3 Bourne movies completed a story – and they were classic. Maybe this is the PEFECT time to start a new trilogy with a new Jason Bourne.
Going ahead with a fourth film without the star of the series onboard; it’s always the same in Hollywood…willing to ruin the integrity of a classic franchise for some extra cash to line the studio’s pockets.

If they can make this series into something similar like “James Bond” (and make it enjoyable), then I’m all for them recasting the character and trying to continue the franchise. But it will be hard though – Matt Damon was da bomb as Jason Bourne!!!!
