I am a huge twilight fan. I have a whole room dedicated to my love of the saga. I just want to say that it would be impossible to make the books into complete movies and even though i am dissapointed that my favorite scenes in the book have been cut from the movies, I am greatful for the writer, director and actors. I am greatful that they are working so hard to put our love on twilight on the big screen. they have to do what they have to do and I have to say I am not dissapointed. I love the whole series, and I am so much looking forward to seeing breaking dawn on the big screen. And i agree with everyone else if you are not a fan of twilight then please take your bashing elsewhere.
I really liked that she made Bella more active and assertive. When she rode away with Jacob, when she went to Rosalie and not the other way around, when she actually cut herself during the fight. Bella in the movies is stronger, and I think it adds more to her character.
I agree…I love the books, but Bella annoys me sometimes with her whiny “I don’t deserve you Edward…I’m not worthy” attitude…it’s nice to see her stick up for herself and have more confidence in the movie.
I get exceptional tired of the whining. Were they translated the best no, but that would be hard to do. I actually enjoyed Eclipse. I also happen to think KS embodies Bella very well. She is so much in her head and that is hard to portray but I see it on screen and the more I watch the more I see it. Edward was way to much in the books. I don’t mind cutting of kidnapping, fun as it was but yes Bella would leave Edward there (following Movie Bella) as a you lied to me and I am rather ticked. Plus they never did the Charlie thing with teh bike and Bella kidnapping so she would not still be mad at him for that (didn’t happen). They did keep the note in, they did keep the proposal and the only thing tat really ticked me off is that Victoria would have NEVER gotten the upper hand. that was irritating. the rest i can live with. having said that i think the pacing of the movie could have afforded another 20 minutes or so to flesh things out a bit more, Meadow, Party, wolf training (I like it better daytime than 3 am) and of course the guilt tripping Bella is supposed to do to keep Eddie out of the fight.
I also was slightly disappointed with Eclipse it is also my fav book and some of the “edits” were awful leaving the seen where Jacob and Bella are dicsussing what their life together would be like and how hard would it of been to add the little comment from Jacob about not being able to fight an eclipse?? Seriously an extra half hr of movie would of cleared up some of these “editing” issues!
I have never felt compelled to reply to one of these discussions, but I feel it necessary to contribute to this debate. I agree with the overall consensus that the movies are lacking in comparison to the novels. On the other hand there are very few movies that ever outshine the books they were adapted from. I am definitely “Team Edward”, but what has bothered me the most about the films is the vast differnece in Jacob’s personality. In the book he is sarcastic and has a great sense of humor. In the movies he is brooding and too serious. I think it takes away from the overall story. Final note: my favorite book out of the series is Eclipse and one of my favorite lines was the note Edward leaves Bella when he goes hunting. It is completly romantic, and after all this series is at its foundation, a romance.
David owes me a coy of Eclips DVD, I could not hear any of the dialog. I’m a huge fan of the books and movies, but a dialog intense movie requires audio. Please consider the less fortunate.
While Eclipse is my favorite of the “published” books in the series (Midnight Sun anyone?), it is my least favorite of the movies. The romance aspect of the story is what attracted me to the Twilight series in the first place and the movie would have been much better if the context of certain scenarios and dialogue from the book weren’t altered beyond recognition or omitted completely from the script!! The core romantic context of the story was abandoned for action violence just to draw a broader audience and larger box office take (I’m thinking it backfired…I saw New Moon 4 times in the theater, but have no interest in seeing Eclipse again until it hits DVD.) The only redeeming quality of the entire movie was the acting was significantly improved. I’m keeping my expectations for Breaking Dawn low so I can’t be too disappointed and will hopefully be pleasantly surprised …although unlikely with MR remaining as Screenwriter.
Movies sucked…have read the books over and over… The most vital scenes which is the charm of the book is missing
Very interesting article. MR says she basically wrote the draft scripts for the 1st 2 movies and then left it with the directors, I always wondered why the movies were so different than the draft scripts I’ve read circulating on the net. They should have left well enough alone, the drafts were much more faithful to the books IMO.
Thanks Melissa for ruining Eclipse with your own liberal spin on who Bella Swan is. I kept wondering why New Moon & Twilight were so good. Well now I know it’s because Catherine Hardwick & Chris Weitz did a lot of the writing. Melissa just wanted to make Bella look strong, independent and in control of things, while making Edward look weak and controlling. Pretty typical from a feminist. She RUINED the love story!
No one cares about her message! Or her beliefs! It’s not her book!
Yuck, she’s so vulgar in her choice of words too. Twilight is supposed to be romantic. Not some nasty spin on what sex means to Melissa Rosenburg.
She’s a feminist who doesn’t have the the slightest bit of what true romance means.
Hah, Dexter is SO boring. She needs to get a new job. Fast.
mk is dead on the money. How could MR take the best book out of the series and turn it into the worst film of the series ? MR, please leave your opinions at the door and leave SM works( 100 million sold) as they are.Don’t change characters or their personalities to suit yourself. If you want a feminist heroine, write one, and see if anyone wants to read it, film it, watch it. You get the point.
I alway hate when a book series is turned into movies or television shows. It seems that screen writers never really read the books that they are adapting. They don’t seem to realize that most of us have read and reread these books, and can recite them in our sleep. I think M.R. Is the worst of these. I don’t know how Stephanie Myers can be proud of these movies when they have butchered so much of her hard work. The casting of the movies was good ,with the exception of Kristen Stewart as Bella, giving theses movies the potential to be phenomenal, if given to a screen writer who was dedicated to the fans and to Stephanie’s wonderful books. BOO! to M.R. And to Summit for these horrible movies. I will stick with the books!
