'X-Men: First Class': Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence join the cast

kevin-baconImage Credit: Chris Hatcher/PR PhotosYes, it’s true. Sources confirm that Kevin Bacon has joined Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class cast. Details of his role are being kept under wraps, but sources tell us he will play a villain, sparring against protagonists Charles Xavier, played by James McAvoy, and Magneto, Michael Fassbender’s role. It’s not clear who Bacon’s character is specifically, or how he’ll figure into the X-Men universe, but it will be fun to watch. Deadline Hollywood first reported this last week.

Also joining the team is up-and-comer Jennifer Lawrence who received raves earlier this year for her leading role in the Sundance smash Winter’s Bone. The 19-year old actress will play Mystique, the role originated by Rebecca Romijn in the X-Men trilogy. The Hollywood Reporter first reported this news today.

Twentieth Century Fox declined to comment on either casting addition. Filming is set to begin this summer in London.

    • Fridge

Like Bacon in a pan? Sorry, just couldn’t help myself. :)

      • Liza

        Cute!!

      • Chaz Winterbottom

Yep. They asked him because it’s a pretty meaty role.

      • Jake

Pudding…..Pudd….I’m trying to think of another dessert to do.

    • SmartMan

He will be playing the clasic Marvel hero: Peter Porker the Amazing Spider-Ham (yes this was a real book.)

      • corecto

there was no such book you idiot

      • zorrobeaner

Yes, there actually was. A goofy ‘kids style’ 80′s book. Sad but true.

      • corecto

I like to make dumb comments that I could have fact checked in less than ten seconds.

      • Z. Abram

        Don’t we all?

  • Mac

I’m not sure who’d he play (Mastermind?) but he’s a good actor, so that definitely bodes well for the movie.

  • EL FRANCO

Kevin Bacon will play the new villain “DEGREES”.

His mutant power is how far he is from the other mutants!

    • who cares

      fail

    • ouch

      badump bump chhhh!

    • yep

would you like to try another one?

    • typeg98

      nice.

  • orville

They had me at James McAvoy. Now Kevin Bacon? Swoon….

    • tvgirl48

ditto. Without all these awesome ppl, I’d still be psyched for another X Men movie. With them? I absolutely cannot wait.

      • Dana

Totally. I don’t care much for X-Men, but with James McAvoy on board, I’ll surely be watching.

  • Chris

    Rumor is it is Sinestro

    • Monica

Sinestro is a DC villain. He’s in Green Lantern’s rouge gallery. It would be weird to have him (or a character with the same name) in a X-men movie

      • ROGUE, not ROUGE

ROUGE is what I wear on my face sometimes, ROGUE is a villain.

      • Greg

I think he meant Sinister and that’s a cool part if it’s true. He’s basically immortal so if they ever jump back to the future he could still play the part.

    • Mac

Mr. Sinister? I think Sinestro is Green Lantern’s arch enemy.

      • Liza

Mr Sinister would be great! He was always one of my favorites and I could definitely see Kevin Bacon playing him!

    • nykolus

      perhaps you meant mesmero???

    • Mark

Do you mean “Mr. Sinister”? Sinestro is a DC villain as someone already pointed out (of Green Lantern’s rogue gallery)

      • Sam

I hope it’s not Mr. Sinister unless Gambit is somehow in the movie too, and it doesn’t look like he will be (and I don’t see how he could, as it appears that this movie precedes Gambit).

  • anthony

my beast guess as to who he would play is Sabastian Shaw, leader of the Hellfire Club.

    • nezzo

“my BEAST guess?” freudian slip? LOL

    • MDS

      This would make sense.

  • Phil

If memory serves, the first REAL villain Magneto & Xavier faced together was the ShadowKing, who can essentially posess anyone & rivals Xavier’s psych skills, so my money is on Bacon’s character filling that role.

    • nykolus

because, phil, marvel movies are KNOWN for sticking to the source material. no offense, luv. =P

    • Tarc

But the Shadow King is Middle Eastern in origin (Egyptian, I believe). If course, if he’s Egyptian, he’d be African then… hrmmmm. In either case, Bacon would not be good. OK, in every case, Bacon would not be good.

      • Luny

Just because someone comes from the continent of Africa does not mean they are black. There are many middle eastern people who are light skinned.

      • jodipo

Keep your racist crap put of here Tarc. You obviously have not been to Egypt. They are not BLACK.

      • BP

Yep, that Charlize Theron is one dark African…

      • Phil

Traditionally, the ShadowKing was indeed a man named Farouk when Xavier first encountered him, but as with any Marvel movie, the source material gets glossed over, and the glory that is the ShadowKing is that he can POSESS ANYONE, hence making Bacon’s unknown character the perfect choice for someone who can be anyone (& coincidentially not have to appear in another movie after this while keeping the character of the ShadowKing alive, Hahaha)
And yes, he wasn’t thinking clearly, but was simply referencing that Bacon wouldn’t really resemble the character of Farouk that appeared in the comics. Stop calling him racist, as I’d like to think he was just considering what the ShadowKing would look like as per the original comics. It happens.

  • Briana

I’ll be there opening night. I still love Kevin Bacon.

  • Chris

    Sorry, meant Mr. Sinister

    • Monica

Ooooh, that would be cool. :)

  • sil

that is the best news i have heard all day!! i adore kevin bacon!

  • feces

    This movie will “sizzle”? “swoon…”?

  • feces

    gay

  • MJ
