'Total Recall' is back, with 'Underworld' director Len Wiseman helming

I guess it was only a matter of time before Total Recall got a 21st century makeover. Sony Pictures announced today that the studio will be making a new adaptation of the famed 1990 movie that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as happily married construction worker who learns that his entire existence has been prefabricated. For the new version, director Len Wiseman (Underworld) will helm a script that is currently being written by Salt scribe Kurt Wimmer. Neal Moritz will produce.

Says Wiseman in a release, “I’ve always been fascinated with Philip K. Dick’s short story and I’m excited at that prospect of diving even deep into the type of world it evokes and the questions it asks. I love that the most crucial mystery our character is trying to solve is the one of his own soul.”

Total Recall was, and will be again, adapted from Dick’s short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.”

Arnold was not from Mars in the movie. he was fighting FOR Mars.

      Exactly!!!
More proof that Nicole Sperling is a complete moron with no clue what she is talking about…
Kinda like studio jackasses who greelit this horrible idea!
I swear, this only means that we’re 1 step closer to the day some motherf@#ker decides it’s time to “remake” Star Wars!…
That will be the day I refuse to ever watch another movie ever again!

from Mars, FOR Mars…is it really worth getting your panties in a bunch?

Did they ever say in the movie where he was born? It’s possible he was born and raised there, then moved to Earth.

Are you kidding? Not with those immigration laws.

This movie was the first that got me psyched about sci-fi; definitely looking forward to it. Make sure to create a part for Sharon Stone.

Ridiculous. This doesn’t need a remake this early.

DAMMIT HOLLYWOOD!!!! Love or hate the original Total Recall WHY does Hollywood feel the need to remake or even to go back to the original source work to make a “new” one. There are enough struggling writers with brilliant ideas out there and enough other wondefully writen short stories to make movies out of, that Hollywood should just leave the whole remake trade alone. Geesh! I am so sick of it. Isn’t everyone else? Obviously, not or Holloywood wouldn’t do it because it is about 95% about the money and 5% about the art of it…I guess.

What’s the point? It will be the same movie but with more over-the -top CGI. Why bother?

I agree. What’s the fracking point of remaking a so-so story when there are thousands of other interesting ones out there?

Good point Jason. Ah yes, another “reimagining”. fantastic. well he brought Die Hard back and not very well if you ask me. But thats just my opinion. The og Total Recall was pretty cool, if this has a chick with 3 breasts I might not mind giving it a look.

  • joesmom

Count me out. The original “Total Recall” was really good and doesn’t need a remake. What is with the Hollywood remakes all of a sudden? Ugh. Not wasting my time.

  • javi

the original was better robot taxi drivers, sharon stone and a chick with 3 breast. i would support a remake if they add a six breasted chick and more robot taxi drivers.

The weird thing is that Philip K. Dick’s works have only barely been mined by Hollywood. It’s a virtual treasure trove of stories they could be telling instead of re-telling the same ones. The day some Hollywood hotshot producer announces he’s “re-imagining” Blade Runner, I will personally hunt him down and retire him.

  • mark in nyc

as long as it has the main character pulling a tracking device out of his nose…I will watch it.
but I say that about every movie.

  • BC

This is awful. If you were going to “re-imagine” the original story, you really need a talented writer with a proven track-record of creative, imaginative works. Not the dude who brought us such films as Ultraviolet, Law Abiding Citizen, and Salt.

  • johnnycab

will we back home in time for cornflakes afterwards?

  • Ben

Enough with the freaking remakes already, Hollywood? Are we out of original stories???

  • Jeff

Most of Dick’s stories have been held up in probate for years.. big court fights. The few that have made it out are doomed to be remade over & over. On the up side, none of them have ever ben that “true” to the originals, so there’s lots of room for decent remakes that don’t look like the other movies.

  • skesha

Someone needs to come out with a listing of every movie that’s ever been made. That way we can be sure that each one has been remade. You know, we wouldn’t want to miss ruining Gone With the Wind or Casablanca.

    no, no, no, no
