Millennium Films confirms that venerable actor Nicolas Cage has backed out of Trespass, the studio’s upcoming feature film, which is set to begin production in Louisiana in two weeks. Deadline Hollywood first broke the story. Cage was supposed to play one of two thieves who take a couple hostage in hopes of earning some easy money. Nicole Kidman was set to play the wife. The husband role, which initially was going to Cage before he opted to play the bad guy, still has not been cast. Joel Schumacher, who is on board to direct, had no comment.
The move comes on the heels of Cage’s recent box office disappointment, Disney’s expensive family film The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, which has only grossed $52 million after three weekends in release. It isn’t clear why Cage backed out of the project, or if he can be swayed to rejoin. Calls to his reps haven’t been returned. Stay tuned as this story is sure to develop.

I wonder why. Maybe b/c his track records is pretty bad now. Cage just cant open movie. Oh well GhostRider 2 please. I love that movie.

Are you kidding, Bob. Ghost Rider is one of his worst and that’s what you want to see a sequel to?

zzzzzzz
I’m reminded of a recent comment by Triumph The Insult Dog “The Gulf Oil leak is such a disaster that I’m surprised Nicholas Cage isn’t starring in it.”
I’m bummed, I was just watching “The Rock” the other day and thinking I’d like another Nic Cage film, a thriller. I haven’t seen much of his films since then I guess, perhaps that’s why, not me personally, but I guess that he’s not selling the films like it was said.
He was great in the Rock and Con-Air, but he’s gone and made stupid choices for projects since, one’s that he wasn’t talented enough to pull off.
I was sad to see him attached to Sorceror’s Apprentice. It had the potential to be a great film if they had properly cast the Sorceror and the Apprentice…can’t stand either of them in these roles.
It was the guy that played the apprentice that made that movie intolerable. Everytime that kid would talk, I just wanted to yell ” Blow your freakin’ nose already!”
No, dude, seriously. A snowball could have pulled off a better Sorceror against Alfred Molina’s fantastic villianous performance. You are right about the kid, but I’m assigning them both equal blame.
He was quite good in “Matchstick Men” too I thought.
“Kickass” was not a stupid choice and, like it or not “National Treasure” made a ton of money. “Bad Lieutenant” got Cage some of the best reviews of his career but it was never going to be a big box office film. I think Apprentice made a big mistake in casting Jay Baruchel, the guy lacks charisma.
with all the bad actors out there today hes a good actor i like seeing him in movies
well nic coppala was the one who suggested the idea to disney , wasnt he?
Don’t mean to get off subject but this has been bothering me for awhile…
Why is it that everytime there’s a “Hollywood Insider” blog it features the dreadful Nicole Sperling and some chick named Lynette Rice when 1,999 out of 2,000 blog entries are written (with HORRIBLE journalism skills) by Sperling!??
I’ve maybe read 2 of these actually written by LR and I don’t really remember them but they don’t leave that taste of bad writing in my mouth the way Sperling’s do.
Take that poor woman’s face off of the header so she doesn’t have to bear the shame of sharing a blog with this hack who can’t write a sentence without sounding like an ignorant idiot who can’t write!!
Wow Matt did she spurn your advances or something?
I agree Matt1. her writing is awkward and her sentences are poorly constructed. I don’t know how she got a job at EW.
Just hurry up and make National Treasure 3, Nicholas!
According to IMDB it is tentatively scheduled for release at end of 2011. So relax, NT3 is coming.
The last time Kidman & Schumacher worked together it was Batman Forever so no wonder he ran!!!
I thought Cage would do anything for a paycheck…and why is Schumacher still directing after the disaster that was Batman and Robin I figured he’d be parking cars but what happens…he directs the less than spectacular Phantom of the Opera…why does this man keep getting work and who does he have pictures of?
‘Tigerland’. He did an excellent job on an indie-scale. That film shows promise.
It would have been nice to see Cage and Kidman work together, but it’s not surprising that Cage backed out. Joel Schumacher is a bad director.
I liked Sorceror, it was a fun movie for the summer. I do think the person in charge of advertising dropped the ball. When it opened here in Vegas there was only one small ad for it,unlike Eclipse which had full page ads when it opened.
ghost rider is fun!!!
I too liked Sorcerer. Yes he looked like a homeless guy but it was good summer fun
Time for National Treasure 3: The Haunted Axe of Lizzie Borden!
People are actually looking foward to more Ghost Rider and National Treasure??? Thats the generic crap that caused the rot to set in. He should go back to movies like The Rock, Face Off, Red Rock West. Enough with the family orientated crap.
except everyone liked ghost rider and national treasure! Nik isnt the rock type of star anymore, just like eddie murph! grow up peter pan
***venerable actor Nicolas Cage***
Seriously? When was the last time he was in a really good movie grossing great money?
Carlisle- the movies you call “family crap” are what the majority of people want to see and make the most money. Get in your comfie recliner with your multiple beers and watch the porn and macho movies you love so much and let the rest of us enjoy ourselves, o.k.?
