Drew Barrymore and Justin Long’s relationship comedy is getting some distance from next weekend’s The Switch. The R-rated comedy from director Nanette Burstein will hit theaters one week later than initially scheduled, opening Sept. 2 rather than August 27.
The studio’s marketing campaign for the funny flick about falling in love while living across country seems to have just gotten started, and one more week will allow it to gain more traction with audiences. Another week should also let the Jason Bateman-Jennifer Aniston relationship comedy The Switch get out of the way.
You can find the trailer for Going the Distance here.

So I guess it “distanced” itself from the competition, eh?
I’ll just show myself out…
It actually looks really cute. I hope it does well. I also hope The Switch does well. I like both those women, and they shine in those types of movies.
The trailer was actually funny!
well to me Distance shouldnt of moved because The Switch has bearly advertised at all
shouldt’ve
So now there’s only two wide releases (not counting the cynical “Avatar” re-release”) for August 27th: the buzzed about PG-13 horror flick “The Last Exorcism” and the utterly generic looking Screen Gems throwaway “Takers.” Not much of a choice for anyone who’s not a fanboy…or a fan of direct-to-video style B action movies. Maybe one of the 5 (count ‘em) week-of-August 20th w/releases should get pushed back to the 27th.
i can’t wait for it. i was surprised by how much i liked the previews. the trailer is AMAZING. i literally laughed-out-loud at every joke.
Definitely a smart idea. Much less competition on that weekend.
It will get killed opening up against “Machete”.
No it actually won’t. Different audiences.
Right cause I was going to run out to see the Machete! Oy.
This 80s starlet should just retire from RomCom, and the movie industry altogether!!
Not surprising…all movie producers/studios try to choose a smart schedule for their movies. I’m faintly interested in this film. At least the leads should have good chemistry because of their relationship
I saw it at a screening a few weeks ago. The director was in attendance for it. It was freaking hilarious, and raunchy at times as well. One of my favorite films this year. Good writing, acting, script, soundtrack, etc.
