It’s worth noting that Scott Pilgrim can rank in the top 150 on IMDb, and the rating has continuously been rising since Comic-Con from about 7.5 immediately after to 8.2 now over the course of three weeks (plus it’s Wright’s top-rated film on that site). The Expendables has fallen from 8.8 on Friday (fan-boy votes) to 8.1 in two days. No longevity for The Expendables; Scott Pilgrim will live for quite some time.
I blame the title. The first time I heard it, I had to have it repeated to me 5 times, then I had to Google it. It’s too long and ridiculous and doesn’t stick out in people’s minds. Unfortunately these days, people need simple things spoonfed to them.
I think that there’s a good possibility that Scott Pilgrim hasn’t done as well as was expected in its opening weekend because a large proportion of those who would’ve gone to see it on opening weekend were seeing it at all the previews that have been going on for the past two weeks?
This movie looked stupid to begin with and that’s probably why the mainstream didn’t see it. Added ontop of that the fact that michael cera is in the movie playing the role he’s been playing since he began acting. In my opinion, “the expendables” and “eat, pray, love” appealed to a larger audience and reaped the benefits.
