The quality of the Swedish film is being largely overstated. It’s an OK movie, but I don’t get the outcry over the remake. It had plenty of flaws and could be greatly improved IMO.
Thank you! I saw it and while Rapace was absolutely great, it got a LOT of stuff wrong, and left a lot of stuff out. Blomkvist and Berger, for instance, were denied a lot of their backstory. I think people just think it’s sophisticate and fashionable to trash anything that can be considered “mainstream.”
This is so stupid. The original film is flawless. Why does Hollywood feel the need to re-make everything into English. Just enjoy the original film for what it is and read the subtitles. I’m sure the remake won’t be as edgy and gritty as the original.

1. They’re not making a verbatim copy of the film. It’s not a “remake” of the film. It’s an adaptation of the book, and if you’ve read the book and seen the first movie, you know that, narratively, there IS room for improvement.
2. If you don’t want to see an English-language version, don’t. But know that no one is impressed at your high-brow posturing about how “superior” the originals are.

I loved the original film, again I’m not surprised that Hollywood wants to remake it. They try to do every good foreign film anyway right? I really hoped the Mila Kunis got the part, I think she would’ve made a great Lisbeth Salander!

kaya scodelario from skins would have been AWESOME. to be fair, if she plays lisbeth, she has a rough time finding parts that aren’t “girl who plays it on ice.” still, one can dream. =)
