Image Credit: Mike Marsland/WireImage.comLiam Neeson (Taken) will play Admiral Shane in Universal’s action-adventure movie Battleship, it was announced today. Neeson will star alongside Friday Night Lights’ Taylor Kitsch, who will play Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones who is Shane’s future son-in-law. The cast also includes Brooklyn Decker (Ugly Betty) as Shane’s daughter, Sam; Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood) as Hopper’s older brother, Commanding Officer Stone of the USS Samson; and Rihanna as Lt. Raikes, Hopper’s crew mate and a weapons specialist.
Directed by Peter Berg (Hancock), Battleship is an action adventure about the planet battling a colossal force. It’ll bow in theaters May 18, 2012. Jon and Erich Hoeber (Whiteout) wrote the screenplay with current revisions by Brian Koppelman and David Levien.
Had my heart set on Kyle Chandler, but Neeson is also awesome.
I get that this isn’t exactly going to be a prestige drama (and the SI with Brooklyn Decker on the cover hung around my coffee table for the appropriate amount of time), but is Berg ever going to cast a real actress in this thing?
…I guess I’m actually starting to buy the idea that he would put Sasha Grey in one of his movies (ala a current “Entourage” plot.)
first off, a movie based on the board game is a bad start. now, they are still casting??? haven’t they already been shooting for a couple of weeks now??? what with all the paparazzi shots of askars and rhianna. just wow.
Ummmm, I highly doubt that the movie is based on the board game. If it is, I’m giving up on Hollywood permanently.
And don’t expect any ‘real’ actress to work for Peter Berg. He casts the girls who are too stupid to run the other way when they see his name attached to something.
The guys should stick to movies with no female characters.

I’m so looking forward to see Alex Skarsgard and Taylor together as brothers, I doubt I’ll pay much attention to Rihanna’s acting skills.
Well, I thought the movie “Clue” was pretty good for being based on a board game. It had a great cast and was pretty funny. I wonder if they’ll make a film of “Risk”? It will be six hours long and nobody will care who wins!
Clue is one of my favorite movies ever!
He’ll release the Kraken during the films climactic final fight, I bet.
