Image Credit: Lorenzo AgiusPrincipal photography on My Week with Marilyn begins today in London. Check out the first image of Michelle Williams as the iconic star. She will play opposite Eddie Redmayne (The Other Boleyn Girl), Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, Dominic Cooper (An Education), Emma Watson, and Julia Ormond. The film tracks Monroe during a week she abandoned her Hollywood career to spend time with Colin Clark (Redmayne), a lowly assistant on the set of The Prince and the Showgirl, who escorted Monroe around Britain after her new husband, playwright Arthur Miller left the country.
Simon Curtis is directing from a script by Adrian Hodges.

She looks terrible as Monroe. Too bad.
She looks terrible. Period.
Oh isn’t it nice to sit at home/work/wherever and say mean things about people we don’t know?!?! Gold star for you, douche!
EWW!! She is ugly!! She should not be Marilyn who is one of the most beautiful women. Michele just looks ugly and bad!
A) She looks sensational, and B) Marilyn was beautiful, but not one of the MOST beautiful.
I hadn’t heard anything about this! Exciting! I love Michelle Williams, she’s destined to become one of our greatest actresses.
Pic looks like an ugly guy in drag. Terrible casting.
Why is she wearing Lisa Rinna’s lips?
Actually, Lisa Rinna doesn’t even have those lips anymore. And now we know where they went.
Oh, shut up d****b*gs. It’s called lipstick. Some of you might even wear it.
She looks like a ghost in that pic and her face looks nothing like Marilyn. I’m puzzled by the casting.
Only judging the picture, it’s kind of creepy. Far too much awareness in the eyes, as opposed to the longing that Marilyn had. I give Michelle Williams credit as a great actress, and this picture wouldn’t stop me from seeing the movie, but it did catch my breath for a second.
Apparently casting directors seem to think putting a blonde wig and red lipstick on someone will make them look like Marilyn. Not the case – clearly.
I’m rather disappointed with this casting, as well. Nothing against Michelle Williams, but not only does she not resemble Marilyn in any way other than the fact that she’s blonde, but going from her past roles I’m not sure I believe her as Marilyn. Maybe she’ll prove me wrong. I’d still see the film, mainly to see Emma Watson and Kenneth Branagh.
agree, she looks like any other girl playing dress up for halloween. blond curls and a fake mole arent what made Marilyn special. she doesnt have any of her features, nor does she exude that playful sensuality that Marilyn had in her photos. Sorry, I like Michelle, but this is bad casting.
Pauley Perette did a better Marilyn in an NCIS episode and that was no great shakes. Scarlett Johansson would be better and i don’t even like her.
This always happens, the same thing happened when Katie Holmes played Jackie O. Everyone has this built up, perfect image in their heads of what these women looked like but realistically, most people probably don’t. Go look at pictures of Marilyn (and Jackie) and you’ll see this to me looks spot on.
Thank you rayna. I agree. MW is a phenomenal actress and I can hear her doing the marilyn voice and this pic demonstrates the inner longing of Marilyn and it’s only a pic.
I know right? She’s NOT Marilyn Monroe, but I think she’s a really really good representation of Marilyn. Michelle Williams if gorgeous and talented, so she’s the perfect person for the role.
I’m really excited to see this movie. The cast is BRILLIANT!!
Actually, Katie DID resemble jackie O in the movie.
She did a good job portraying Jacke O’s demeanor and small actions. So here’s hoping Michelle Williams’ acting is up to standard.
You people are crazy!! Just because an actor/actress does not spot on resemble the person they are portraying does not mean they will do a terrible job. Michelle Williams is an incredible actress who could pull this role off. Judging a whole performance on one photo?? just dumb.
Meryl Streep is a great actress too but that doesn’t mean she could pull off playing Marilyn. They should have cast someone who looked more like her.
Very true. She can pull it off. And honestly…did Angela basset look like Tina in “whats love got to do with it?” No. Its all about tone and capturing the spirit of the real character and heck, even when Williams was on Dawson…she was able to portray a disturbing type of longing, beauty, innocence and im one step close to cutting my wrist vibe.
The problem is that she is ugly.
Michelle Williams is ugly? By what standards? Piss off, troll.
She isn’t remotely attractive.
Well Marilyn Monroe wasn’t the most attractive woman in the world. I think Michelle Williams is beautiful.
I like Michelle. There is something about her demeanor that I find very attractive, and she is a classy lady, good mom and sweet disposition. Compare to other “Hollywood” women…
She captures the essence of Marilyn, off course, the real Marilyn, is irreplaceable. Good luck Michelle, stay sweet!
One picture isn’t enough to go off of. She’s a gifted actress and I’m sure once the movie has actually been filmed, she’ll blow us away.
That is not a flattering picture. I think Michelle Williams is an attractive woman and I am sure that she will do a fine job in the role, but this picture looks nothing like Marilyn and makes Michelle look unattractive. I don’t know if it is the lighting, the expression on her face or the angle, but her features are too strong and have a piggy quality. Not the soft sensuality of Marilyn or the beauty of Michelle herself.
I don’t know what any of you are talking about. If you were flipping through a magazine and saw this picture you would totally think it was Marilyn. I like Michelle William. I’m sure she will do a great job.
No I wouldn’t. She looks nothing like Marilyn. The bone structure is all wrong.
calm down peeple maybe this movie taks place when shes in her 50s. dont be jumping to cunclusions
Um, duh, Marilyn died @ 36.
Just more proof that no one can look like Marilyn Monroe.
wasn’t naomi watts once attached to playing marilyn? or is there another movie in the works? i can’t remember the full story but geez, i would have much rather seen naomi watts in the role. i know she’s in her 40′s but that’s what make up’s for.
wait a sec, nevermind, Watts is playing her in 2012, in the movie Blonde…i’m looking forward to that movie’s first production photo.
Well, if it is based on Joyce Carol Oates’ book of Marilyn, “Blonde,” it will be worth a look.
