Image Credit: Sean CliverWow, looks like stupidity is even better in 3-D. At least that’s what Johnny Knoxville and his crew of American idiots proved yesterday, pulling in an astounding $20 million on Friday for a weekend that’s bound to hit $40 million even if moviegoers drop off after Jackass 3D‘s opening night. The Bruce Willis-Helen Mirren-starrer Red also had a solid beginning, earning approximately $7 million on Friday for a three-day that could reach $20 million.
The Social Network looks like it will hold strong in its third weekend in theaters. The Oscar front-runner grossed another $3 million on Friday for what could be an impressive under-30-percent drop for the weekend, a number that will help the film reach its $100 million goal (the film’s domestic gross topped $52 million as of Thursday).
Last weekend’s two new wide releases also seem to be holding in well. The Katherine Heigl-Josh Duhamel romantic comedy Life As We Know It could drop a scant 40 percent for the weekend, earning around $3 million on Friday. And Secretariat, which opened weakly last frame, seems to be losing only 30 percent this weekend, also grossing around $3 million on Friday. Check back tomorrow for complete results.
Box Office Preview: ‘Jackass 3D’ and ‘Red’ compete for top slot this weekend

I saw both films and think they’re excellent! I highly recommend seeing either one this weekend
First of all, I never talk this nice on the website, especially about something so dumb like Jackass 3D.
Second, what has this country turned into?? Are people that stupid to actually pay to see feces and piss in 3D? $20 million, really? America, you have officially went down the toilet.
Nope, I really did love both movies, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I don’t know why you’d think I say only negative things about everything. No sane person would do that. You must be an imposter.
also I have no talent.
Again, you’re a freaking idiot. Please leave.
This is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen! Trolls arguing! Encore!
Life as we know it earned 3,065,000—so that is more than 3 million. Secretariat earned $2,844,000. Go to box office mojo instead! These writers are annoying!
That just goes to show you that America’s arrogance does NOT merritt the level of their intelligence…
The fact that they are proud of their stupidity makes you wonder, why was that country so great to begin with?
Why would you talk about intelligence when you can’t even spell “merit”???
He probably went to an american public school…
Oh please, could you self important little nerds on the internet get over yourselves. For every Monty Python there’s a Benny Hill.
Of course Jacka$$ is going to pull big numbers. It’s a recession, people want to escape reality. The screwball comedies in the 1930s served the same purpose.
I don’t buy your argument. How many films this year “escaped reality” yet failed miserably?? You seem to be brushing off the success as no big deal. This is a huge # for any movie. Regardless of whether or not it features genitalia smashing. Maybe it’s just good? (Disclaimer: I haven’t seen it)
It wasn’t an argument and not dissing any other films. It was merely an opinion. It seems you are looking for someone to disagree with, for no reason.
Scott Pilgrim, MacGruber, The Wolfman, and other failed.
Funniest movie i EVER SAW. i AM 50 YEARS OLD AND THIS BEATS EVERYTHING I’VE SEEN. I was literally dying laughing…
If you were LITERALLY dying of laughter, then you would be dead now.
Just because you are dying of something doesn’t mean that you are dead yet. He could still be dying.
You mean figuratively!!!
HA!! Is it sad that I laughed for 2 straight minutes because of a “HIMYM” reference? Thats probably the funniest comment I’ve seen on these boards.
Let me guess.. You also live with your 80 years old mother, are unemployed, and hang out outside high schools cause you like to “check out the scene”..
Right on all counts, except the last one. I hang out outside high schools because I like fornicating with 17 year olds (which is legal where I live, so don’t call Chris Hanson).
That just means heyanimal is a sad sad loser
Joan’s alone…again.
I’m not sad.
Wow. Jackass 3D made $20 million its first day? That’s way too much for a movie like this. However, it’s in 3D, so it’s not like it made that much. But that’s still money that should have gone to films like The Social Network. Why do you think they had the Jersey Shore idiots promote this on MTV? Because they don’t have good taste in movies. Films like The Town and The Social Network should have made $20 million on their opening days, not this piece of sewage.
Actually, it makes perfect sense. After 2 movies, a tv series, and 10 yrs of pranks and stunts, they finally announced it was the last installment. Add the fact that it was in 3D. Add the fact that Jersey Shore promoted it, with 20 million fans following them.
Meh, if Jersey Shore was so popular, The Situation would still be on Dancing with the Stars.
The Social Network is doing fine. Let Me In is the one that deserves more numbers.
Fully agree, Let Me In was such a great movie. It’s a shame it’s not getting the numbers it should.
Easy A also deserved a $20 million opening day. But it still doing well. Jackass 3D will likely drop next weekend. What’s the general WOM on it?
You know I love a dumb moives and I’m happy that these guys are in the number one spot , so far. What I can’t understand is why a movie like this can and will stay in the top 5 and LET ME IN can’t even make it’s money back in ticket sales.
Maybe everyone just went and rented the original rather than just watch a remake, given remakes are generally terrible films. (I havent seen it so I cant say)
Don’t roller skate in my herd!
Ya know, I’d be lying my a$$ off if I didn’t say that I laughed myself into a headache from the first Jackass. By the second one, I was amused, but, it was kinda “meh”. Now, this one is out and it’s in 3-D and…so what. The same “kick in the balls” or “punch in the face”. Johnny Knoxville is at the threshold of 40. Dude needs to pick up a another job skill. Yes, he’s making bank, but, he’s gonna need plastic hip surgery very soon with all these pratfalls and explosions.
Which Jackass will die first?
My money is on that gross midget.. It’ll be hilarious..
Jesus, dude. Wee Man is awesome.
Broken necks are had to predict.
JACKASS has no reason to be in 3D other than the beginning, and possibly end sequence. Other than that….there was nothing 3D worthy. I did laugh for 90 minutes, don’t get me wrong, but the 3D effects were cheap, but will help it pull in more cash with the raised ticket prices.
Johnny said that they took points instead of a salary for the movie. I’m ok with them making it in 3D so they can make some cash.
Go see it. It’s hilarious. When I saw it, The theater was packed with all age groups and everybody was laughing their ass off. So what if it’s stupid. Not every movie you watch has to be a serious movie. Go have fun.
It would’ve worked as a midnight movie in the 7o’s but I love these guys and Johnny Knoxville. The 3rd one wasn’ the charm as the first two but still enjoyable. I liked the Pin the tail on the Donkey and the escaped ape in Bam’s parents hotel room. These guys have fun but I felt they tried a little too hard for the 3rd.
I frown upon any lowbrow comedy out there, BUT Jackass manages to make me crack up every single time.
Saw it last night. IF you’ve been a fan of the series since it first came around- you’ll enjoy it a lot more then a random movie goer. I enjoyed it. It was funny, and the audience laughed as a whole throughout the movie. If your a stick in the mud, then don’t go see it. I enjoyed it and it really made me laugh. Must see.
Please learn the differences between “then” and “than” and also “your” and “you’re”.
Go see go see go see!
Pretty tight
