The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that French-Swiss filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard, one of this year’s four recipients of an honorary Oscar, will not be attending the Governors Awards ceremony on Nov. 13. “He reiterated his thanks for the award,” said Academy president Tom Sherak in a statement, “and also sent his good wishes to the other individuals being honored the same night – Kevin Brownlow, Francis Ford Coppola and Eli Wallach – who he refers to as ‘the three other musketeers.’” Known for 1960′s Breathless and 1980′s Every Man for Himself, Godard, 79, has never been nominated for a competitive Oscar.

Who can blame him? I mean, not a single competitive nod for one of the 20th century’s most influential directors…
I think he’s more p*ssed off about the fact that the honorary Oscars are no longer awarded during the main televised ceremony but during some diner attented by a handful of people no one cares about.
Oops, I meant dinner. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if it was held at a diner.
It’s nice to see Brownlow, Godard and Wallach receiving some Oscar love, but honestly, do they really need to give Francis Ford Coppola another Oscar?
Yeah, this award hardly makes up for the Academy’s utter neglect of one of the most groundbreaking directors in film history.
