When I was a kid, I pretty much only watched sci-fi movies and Westerns. So believe me: I really, really, really want Cowboys & Aliens to be good. Genre mash-ups are tricky to pull off, but based on the teaser trailer, it looks like director Jon Favreau is gamely trying to merge the windswept frontier world of High Noon with CGI alien-invasion action. Daniel Craig is the star as the mysterious (possibly amnesiac?) outlaw, and Olivia Wilde is distractingly gorgeous as a frontier lady. Still, the real pleasure in the trailer is seeing Harrison Ford doing his action-hero thing again. Check it out below:
The most hopeful thing in the trailer flashes by right at the end: “Screenplay by Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman & Damon Lindelof.” Lindelof, of course, was one half of the showrunning team behind Lost, and Orci/Kurtzman wrote the screenplay for the jaunty Star Trek reboot. They also, however, write Transformers movies. (But this looks better than Transformers. Or at least better than Jonah Hex. Right?)
What do you think about this first look at C&A, PopWatchers?

This looks good! I’ve been looking forward to this movie for a while. Although Ford looks more awkward as a cowboy than I would have thought.
Wow, that actually looks good! When I first heard of “Cowboys & Aliens” I thought it was going to be more of a will smith type comedy action thing
i think it looks awesome
Dude, looks great! Can’t wait to see this. Seems like fun…
Man, I hope this is good.
I can’t remember the last time I have so badly wanted a movie to not suck. I have really high hopes for this, and I can’t wait to see Craig acting alongside Ford.
I love that I had to sit through the preview of one movie to see another.
Dear Green Lantern: THIS is how you do a movie trailer!
WTF? Trailers have trailers now? That’s screwed up. C&A: I am so looking forward to this film. Looks good.
Am I the only one that thought the new Star Trek was horrible? It seemed to throw away so much of what I loved about the franchise, it felt like a whole new Space show using the names instead of making up its own.
Nope you were not the only one. It was a mess and highly overrated.
@Chris Richards: If you share the same opinion as professional grump/troll Rolo Tomasi, you really should reconsider your position.
@Who killed…?: I should reconsider my opinion because someone you dislike also has it? That’s like saying someone should stop being liberal because they hate Kieth Olbermann, it doesn’t make any sense. I just didn’t care for the movie, and their names have been tied to more than one project I dislike (Legend of Zorro, Fringe). That being said, I have mixed feelings about MOST of the people in this, but it still seems to be a pretty awesome concept. While my interest in this is high, I am tired of hearing the 2009 Star Trek bandied about as if it was something to be proud of writing. Just sayin’.
Welcome back Harrison Ford!!!!!! Can’t wait!!!!
Frakkin’ awesome. But you made me sit through a stinkin’ Airbender ad first?! That wasn’t part of the deal, Franich! It wasn’t part of the deal!!
Yep… another rotten Universal movie to look forward to…
Looks half-decent
I am ridiculously excited for this! It looks amazing! I am definitely excited for Harrison Ford! He looks like an insanely awesome bad guy. This looks to be a summer hit!! Or at least, it should be!
