'Paranormal Activity 3' to spook movie-goers on Oct. 21, 2011

Paranormal Activity seems to be taking a (bloody) page from the Saw series: The low-budget horror franchise has scheduled its third film for Oct. 21, 2011, nearly one year after the release of Paranormal Activity 2. With that move, Paramount seems to be establishing the franchise as an annual event scheduled to scare movie-goers each Halloween. The studio could not release any other details about Paranormal Activity 3, but is likely hoping for continued box office success over the years: The second film, released this past October, has raked in $82 million, while the first Paranormal — released in 2009 — proved to be a surprise hit, scaring up nearly $108 million and beating Saw VI during its opening weekend, thanks to a clever grass-roots campaign.

Dear god, these movies suck. Must there be a third?

    • Tony

I hope this will be the last, I actully liked it, but i dont want them to Milk the crap out of it like the Saw Movies..

    • B

You were there for 7 Saw movies… why can’t people who like good horror movies have a third?

  • Dave

They’ll eventually and inevitably run the franchise into the ground.

  • MCS

We can only hope they don’t make seven of them as well

  • Nerwen Aldarion

Well I hope they keep the same formula. PA1 and PA2 were very good, we’ll see about PA3

    • trey

What movie were you watching? PA1 was a borefest.

      • Jorge

You’re in the small minority that feel that way pal

      • rerun

Yes, PAs are awful. They make you use your imagination and stuff and that hurts sometimes.

      • Frank

There is a very vocal group of people that think the PA films are cheap, crap. I suppose if I film my bathroom for 2 hours, it would be considered some imaginative masterpiece of minimalist cinema. What hurts is people getting suckered into thinking nothing is something when in fact it really is nothing.

@trey I agree!! PA 1 was mindlessly boring… I nearly fell asleep. PA 2, on the other hand… let’s just say I was not sleeping when the demon and Kristi interacted.

  • Bob

It’s all about the money. If people keep paying to see them, the studios will keep making them. Oooo maybe PA 3 will be in 3-D, so they can make even more money (gag)

    • Barry

If it’s in 3D, you’ll be able to reach out & touch the furniture in the bedroom.

  • Anna

Cool. I’m intrested to see where the story goes.

  • larry k

If the third one is as good as the first two,I’m there!

  • Russ

This is a huge risk creatively, I was surprised at how well PA2 ended up being but where else can the story really go?

    • Keisa

I hope they go back to when the sisters were young and the entity started bothering them, or somehow back to the great great grandmother or whomever started the trouble in the 1st place. 3D would be pretty cool though!

    • Grace

Maybe the girl will be searching for her little half-brother.

  • Kevin

I wonder where they will go with part 3. I hope they dont ruin it. I really like the 1st 2. I hope they dont run this into the ground…but that said I am excited for the prospect of the 3rd one.

  • George W. Bush

They will run these movies into the ground the way they did with “Saw”.

    • George Bush Sr.

kinda like the way you ran America into the ground Mr.President?lol

  • rerun

Really liked how PA2 worked. I will definitely go to see 3 when it comes out. Not sure if they’ll link it up or not.

  • Felix

Awesome. After the J-Horror fad and the Torture Porn fad, now we get the Found Footage fad. Can’t wait for all the god-awful PA ripoffs to appear.
