'Lincoln Lawyer' trailer: Matthew McConaughey heads back to court

When I think of Matthew McConaughey as a lawyer, I think of Jake Brigance, John Grisham’s sweaty, beefcake version of Atticus Finch in Joel Schumacher’s A Time To Kill. But after 14 years of playing mostly callow characters, McConaughey doesn’t really have the persona to play idealistic anymore. So it’s just as well that he’s cast as a sketchy attorney in the adaptation of Michael Connelly’s The Lincoln Lawyer. He doesn’t quite reach the level of Frank Galvin (Paul Newman in The Verdict), but he’s definitely sending out a Richard-Gere-in-Primal-Fear-vibe, especially with a shady client who may or may not be telling the truth. Check it out after the jump:

I’m encouraged by the deep and talented cast — they didn’t even get around to showcasing Bryan Cranston — so much so that I don’t even mind that the trailer is rather heavy with silent stares, as McConaughey and Ryan Phillippe try to decipher each others’ souls.

Are you ready to see McConaughey back in a courtroom? And what are the odds there’s at least one scene with his lawyer lacking a shirt?

Great Book. The sequel is also pretty good (entitled the Brass Verdict).

I bet he takes his shirt off for the summation.
Anyway, this looks totally predictable. I feel like I’ve already seen the movie. Let me guess, the guy turns out to be guilty but his lawyer got him off and now feels guilty about it so he kills him himself or something along those lines. Blah blah blah. I’ll be perfectly happy to be wrong about that!

Great book. It’s not as predictable as Rica suggests.

The sequel is fantastic and McConnaughey is perfect asking, as is Phillippe and Pena.

Cannot wait for this. Let’s hope that it paves the way for a Bosch adaptation.
