Today, the New York Post reported that Gossip Girl‘s Chace Crawford and Twilight‘s Taylor Lautner were being eyed for the adaptation of Amazing Race winner Reichen Lehmkuhl’s 2006 memoir Here’s What We’ll Say: Growing Up, Coming Out, and the U.S. Air Force, which describes his time in the Air Force Academy under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and how he found refuge in a secret network of gay cadets who would meet and agree on what they would say should someone be in danger of being exposed. (The promise was so binding, the group had “Here’s what we’ll say” inscribed on the inside of their class rings.) Producer Lalo Vasquez tells EW Crawford and Lautner are on the wish list — as are others on Young Hollywood’s A-list — but that no offers will be made until he, his Chapter 7 Entertainment producing partner Devon Jones, and Lehmkuhl find financing and a director. Vasquez and Jones optioned Lehmkuhl’s book last year and have a draft of a script by Chad Darnell that they’re staging a reading of for financiers now. Lehmkuhl’s story is being used a springboard (the main character, for instance, won’t be named Reichen) and will be told from a couple different perspectives in the ’90s, when the policy went into effect, and show how characters end up crossing paths because of it. “Reichen’s story is definitely the through line of the movie. We just wanted to open it up so it speaks to everyone and not just someone interested in the book. We believe that it has a huge canvas,” Vasquez says. It’s a passion project for the independent producers, who optioned the book with their own money because after 10 years in the movie business, they wanted their first feature as producers to mean something more than just make-believe. “We’re starting from the ground up, and it’s a fight,” Vasquez says. “It’s a topic that some people are afraid to touch, because it means they’re choosing a side.” Lehmkuhl is a producer on the film and worked closely with the writer.

Taylor and Chase in this movie? Makes a lot of sense…and maybe they’ll use this is a “coming out” opportunity as well.
Grow up.
This seems a lot like possible typecasting to me.
The book is amazing and a movie would be great! I can’t wait. Best of luck to everyone involved, you are doing good.
Are you kidding?! Are sure this is the best person to advocate for this particular community’s rights?! Does Reichen really think that highly of himself? *Rolls eyes* Watching him on the A-list (more like F-list) has been painful and should be embarassing to his peers. He has the pretty boy syndrome. Just because he’s goodlooking does not mean he’s talented as an writer or life coach on this subject, or that anyone would give a crap about his story. He basically effed his way through gay hollywood to get where he’s at today. Something to be really proud of. ugh.
Agree with you. Seriously? After his “performance” on “The A-List” I don’t think Lehmkhul deserves anymore notoriety or press. What a disgrace he is to the gay community. He should just go quietly away into oblivion
Sounds like wishful thinking in order to get some financing. Taylor Lautner is not a dramatic actor, Chase Crawford hasn’t proven himself yet outside of T.V. This guy is just trying to get buzz for the movie by name-dropping.
You’re the stereotypical fangirl troll type. let me guess you’re about 12-18, and a rob pattinson fan
Thiscomment:” You’re the stereotypical fangirl troll type. let me guess you’re about 12-18, and a rob pattinson fan” was meant to go under the child who posted as “LOL” even that as a name gives it all away as to the level of maturity at.
Exactly correct Jason, I think, at least for taylor Lautner who’s salary ranges up to 7.5 mil, their salaries couldn’t justify a straight to video release that most certainly should be.
Add to what you’ve commented is that neither Crawford nor Lautner(even less) would touch his bound to be Lifetime movie with a 10 foot pole.
merks62 on June 19, 2007 A full restoration of this car would be urunntfoate, in my opinion. After all, the way this Plymouth acquired its patina is as unique as it gets!
So Reichen is some kind of folk hero now….I guess everyone forgot what an egotistical jerk he was on “The Amazing Race.”
He can write?
Great, another gay movie.
Great, another bigot.
Yeah those one or two a year that actually get to make it to theaters are just stealing all the theater slots from those other movies.
The actors they mention are only on a “wish list.” Lautner and Crawford haven’t been approached, and there’s nothing that suggests that they are even interested. Very lame attempt at getting some buzz. Just throwing around names of popular young celebrities.
You are very correct in your assumption. Desperate measure from Reichen whose 15 minutes of fame are over. Who cares?
If you don’t then why are you even on this page..?you’re just like those gay people who keeps denying that they’re gay
What’s funnier is now his co star Robert Pattinson’s vampire character is being being to Cher in an article in Newsweek:
”
The message is that Cher Burlesque, as well as Edward Cullen, is a nocturnal creature that never in any way will die, so might as well give in and let her bite. During a sequence of her in a big musical number called You Have not Seen the Last of Me, she still shines just like the vampire from Stephenie Meyer. Credits to the bright lips, eyelids, blouse, shoes and belt. Detail: without any wrinkles.”
White B*tch October 15, 2010 JS girls look hot! I hope they never go off air. i have my Snooki costume ready for Halloween. White B*tch
I’d be more excited if the two top actors weren’t Taylor Lautner and Chace Crawford. The story sounds like it has potential, though.
Seriously? Unproven “producers” (have you seen Vasquez’s embarrassingly amateur short film? It’s awful) A vapid gay celebrity. A whole lot of name dropping. That somehow equals a good movie project? Further proof that all you need to get bad movies made in Hollywood is a little bit of press and whole lot C list starfucking. Amazeballs!
I’ve read the book and it’s my favorite now. Not sexual but sexy. Im sure I’m gon’ love me a movie version of this book. While reading the book, I feel like im the one who wrote it. When he was jealous of ben silverman’s girlfriend, I am getting jealous as well. Great Job, Reichen. I feel like I want to meet you..
I just finished reading his memoir and it was pretty damn incredible. I can’t believe they’re already in the works of turning it into a movie. I completely doubt that Lautner or Crawford would do the movie though, considering their salaries but…ya never know. Lehmkuhl’s novel was inspiring. It was a definite eye opener for me about life in the Air Force Academy. I wouldn’t be surprised if children in the next generation read this novel to see how life has changed in American history.
