As if you needed any further proof that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1 is a box-office powerhouse, IMAX revealed today that the fantasy film set a global opening-weekend record of $16.1 million from 340 IMAX theaters. Of that figure, $11.8 million came from domestic IMAX screens. The previous record holder, Alice in Wonderland, debuted in March to $15.3 million globally from IMAX locations.
Box Office Report:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows debuts to franchise-best $125.1 mil

That’s not a shock at all, That’s what you’d expect of a movie based on an Awesome literature piece.
Harry Potter Rockz
GO HP!!! I’m planning on seeing it in Imax very soon! I’ve already seen it twice in the normal theater.
While Harry Potter’s opening didn’t break some records I predict that it will hold up more like Dark Knight did and makes lots of money that way. Harry Potter has more adult fans who can wait to see it another week and I can see it being a big Thanksgiving day treat for kids before they go see the family.
I wouldn’t pay to see a harry potter movie on an iPhone, let alone $20 for IMAX!
@Matt1
$20 for IMAX? Where do you go? It was NOT 3D. It was $12 here in NEPA. For the ultimate in picture & sound. $3.00 more than the regular theatre. I AM IN. The movie rocked!
