Director Kevin Smith has revealed plans to auction off his recently completed horror film Red State at the Sundance Film Festival.
“If it gets into Sundance, my plan is to pick the RED STATE distributor right there— IN THE ROOM—auction style,” Smith wrote in an email to /Film. “Might even bring up a professional auctioneer to make it fun and unintelligible. And if you’re a multi-millionaire who can’t make it to the first screening of RED STATE, fear not: maybe we’ll set up an eBay page for the post-screening bid-calling as well.”
It was Sundance which famously acted as a launch pad for Smith’s debut movie Clerks, in 1994. What do you think of his plan for Red State, which stars John Goodman, Melissa Leo, and Kevin Pollak? Other than it sounding like an entertaining way to spend an evening in Utah?

‘Red State’ teaser poster: Is this Kevin Smith’s comeback?

wish i could be there! sounds very ‘entertaining’.
Idiot. I adore Kevin Smith and I’m sure Red State is going to be fantastic, but if he thinks studio execs/investors are actually going to participate in such a display, he’s sorely mistaken. There’s a reason these deals are made behind closed doors.
idiot? im sure he has a greater understand of how hollywood works compared to you. im not trying to be a dick but after doing something for as long as he has you would think he would have some idea…but it does sound odd yes
Jay and Silent Bob would approve.
Snoochie Boochies
Sounds like a real quality production. What did this cost, $120 bucks?
*yawn*
yet another Kevin Smith flop. Maybe it’s time for him to direct something direct to video?
With the exception of Jersey Girl no Kevin Smith film has lost money at the box office, and he has stated that at $4m this film will be in the black once the DVD deal is signed. So ‘flop’?
Pass on this one. Sounds like he is going all political and pulling a comedic Michael Moore. Kind of lame to be attacking middle America for being conservative and religious when the blue states elected a guy who was never qualified to be POTUS and he has been a complete failure. Why not throw a little criticism that direction? Because Dems never admit to being failures at anything.
obviously you have not read anything about the movie. It is not a political movie nor a comedy, but a horror movie. Please know a little bit about what you are talking about before saying teh first thing that comes to mind.
Wow. So glad this turned into a political argument. Allow me to weigh in: it is a horror movie, but it uses Middle America and “God-fearin’ country folk” as the backdrop. Hence, it’s a political comedy metaphor.
And if any of you lib-tards had any brain cells left, you’d be able to read between the lines.
You redneck forget so easily that the title of worst president EVER belongs to a conservative christian moron who was the worst failure in history…so who’s not admitting failures?
They even fail with their failures!
I ate some red meat. Did that mean I ate a “middle American”?
I stopped at a red light Did that make the light conservative?
I am currently wearing a red wool sweater. Was the sheep a republican?
I rented a DVD from Redbox. Did I rent the movie from a “religious conservative”?
Dude, sometimes “red” means “red”. Take a pill.
Don’t call it a comeback.
Wish I was going this year-sounds like fun. Heck, I would bid at the start-you never know.
Oh Kevin Smith, you SKYLARK, you!
Since when was Carter a “conservative christian moron”? I don’t get it?
Why is Melissa Leo in anything?? She is a meanlooking, unattractive pissedoff expression all the time. YUCK.

Hah! Good one, lunchbox!
