New 'I Am Number Four' trailer: Now with more Timothy Olyphant!

After a teaser that was heavy on narration, quick cuts, and loud noises, the new trailer for DreamWorks’ upcoming teen sci-fi movie I Am Number Four slows down long enough to establish the movie’s mood a little bit. Alex Pettyfer is the handsome troubled boy with a secret (he’s an alien on the run from hunters), Glee‘s Dianna Agron is the pretty troubled girl who falls for him… so far, so Twilight. But then, when you least expect it, things start going Boom! Timothy Olyphant is on hand as the Giles to Pettyfer’s Buffy, playing the renegade teen’s mentor/protector. See for yourself:

PopWatchers, are you intrigued by I Am Number Four? Did you read the original book? More importantly, did you read my colleague Keith Staskiewicz’s interview with Four‘s extraterrestrial author, Pittacus Lore? (Fact: Aliens use e-readers. How advanced!)

I don’t know if I’m ready to see Quinn Fabray as a movie star yet.

Hmmm. I really loved the book but am not sure (based on this trailer) if this movie will do it justice. We shall see….

I feel like they just combined a ton of movie scenes into one. First off, the entire things is practically Twilight verbatim. Then there’s the slow motion scene of the blue light busting through the door and the fire which is from Watchmen. The scene of the girl walking away from the explosion is Sarah Connor in Terminator 2. The scene of the girl in the school’s hallway is Black Widow in Iron Man 2. And at the end when they’re being engulfed by flames looks very familiar as well.

Buddymoore! Excellent observations but origins of each of these shots that you mentioned go back a little further so they are even more cliche but that can be said about pretty much every movie. There hasn’t been too much innovation in the industry so don’t go into a movie looking for originality but instead look for something that can help you escape, which I believe this movie will definitely provide! Except it is a little weird that the main character looks to be close to 30 than 16-18!

This movie and the return of Justified–looking forward to both. Anything with the great Timothy O is worth watching.

I did read the book, and now that Timothy Olyphant is in it, I’m totally down with seeing the movie. I will literally watch anything that man is in!

Read the book. The premise is interesting, but it is so poorly written, it makes Stephenie Meyer’s writing look good. I’m a Timothy Olyphant fan, though, so count me in.

Haha, I totally agree on you with that… I started reading the book and it is really poorly written, but the story line is good enough… I think the movie will end up being better with more action involved… Yet again, I’m not one to judge because I haven’t read the ending– I’ve been putting off finishing it because every time I start to regain interest, the writing annoys me so I just put it down… xD

I agree. I had high hopes for the book – I thought it had an interesting premise. Alas the storyline was just kind of predictable/boring, and the writting was incredibly disappointing.
I’ll probably still see the movie, though.

Hmm. I’m intrigued, I’ll say that much.

Aliens? Action? Dianna Agron? WHEN IS THIS OUT?!

Anything with Timothy Olyphant in it has my vote and I will be waiting to see this movie. Plus in Feb 2011, Justified returns and if you want to see Timothy at his very best – do not miss Justified.

If Timothy Olyphant did a 30-second Twinkie commercial, I would watch it, and then buy a DVD of the commercial! Will see this movie because of him — and buy the DVD. The book is poorly written, but TO can make gold out of lead on the big and little screens! (Note: Justified back on FX in February; the Season 1 Justified DVD is out in January! Yay! Have had my order in for the DVD since July 2010.)

I will go see this movie just to see the few minutes that contain Timothy Olyphant. Hopefully Tim’s character is involved in some kind of incident that removes his shirt from his body.
