Wachowskis eyeing Will Smith for the 'Hood'

The Wachowski siblings, Andrew and Lana (né Laurence), are gearing up for their next project: A modern, urban retelling of the Robin Hood legend, titled Hood. The Wachowskis wrote the script and would co-direct, as first reported by the Hollywood Reporter‘s Heat Vision Blog. Will Smith, who famously turned down the role of Neo in the Wachowskis’ The Matrix (to make Wild Wild West instead), is reportedly being considered for the lead role.

Do we really need ANOTHER Robin Hood? I think we all know the story…

    • Andy

Actually, no, we DON’T “know the story.” There’s a particular version of the Robin Hood tale that’s become culturally entrenched and has been retold fifty million times.

But no one, not even in the recent Crowe flick, has ever gone back to actual persons and conditions of the early 1200s that could *realistically* have given rise to the legend.

And Andy knows, ’cause he was THERE, dammit.

Heh, I remember when they were known as the Wachowski “Brothers.” Had more of a ring to it than “siblings.”

They actually use “The Wachowskis” now.

I absolutely feel embarrassed that I had no idea Larry Wachowski had become a woman.

(I’ve visited this site practically every day for the last few years…where were you with this info, EW?!)

Didn’t know that the Fresh Prince was almost Neo.

    Whoa…

I hope the get big Will this time.

    This sounds terrible!

If he’d taken “Matrix,” would Keanu have starred in “Wild Wild West”? It couldn’t have been any worse….but at least the “hip, fly ghetto” dialogue would have been excised.

    • Mr. Holloway

Better yet…not sure “Wild, Wild West” would’ve been made at all. (Since it was a collaboration between Smith and his MIB director Barry Sonnefield around the time where they probably felt like they could accomplish anything.)

RE: the Real Robin Hood: Actually, there is a book called “Hood” by Stephen Lawhead that take the RH story back to its roots in 1080 – for a real hisotrically accurate account of the myth. Check it out
