Time to haul that nautical lingo out of mothballs again. The first official trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is here — anchors away! hoist the mainsail! — and considering this is just a teaser, Disney has stuffed it with a surprising number of goodies to keep fans satisfied as they wait the next six months for the movie’s release. The usual staples we’ve come to expect from the franchise are firmly in place: Exotic locales, Captain Jack Sparrow’s boozy banter, Geoffrey Rush’s gravelly-voiced Barbossa, a quest for a precious prize (this time, the fabled Fountain of Youth), and much buckling of swash. But the trailer also offers glimpses of some fresh additions to the series — most notably, Penelope Cruz as Sparrow’s saucy love interest, and Ian McShane, clad in roadie-for-Motörhead black leather, as Sparrow’s new nemesis, the pirate Blackbeard. Plus, cementing their status as the It Monsters of the moment: Zombies! The trailer lavishes most of its attention on Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow, which shouldn’t surprise anyone. Sparrow has always been the heart and soul of the franchise, and with the departure of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley from the series, that’s more true than ever. Check it out:
What do you think? Does this trailer make you go “Yaaar!”? And, if so, is that in a good way or a bad way?

I’m actually very impressed with the trailer. It makes me excited for the film and I think the casting is good too. The plotline seems interesting as well. Either way, it’ll be better than the second and third films in the series.
I agree, I had no intention of seeing it but now I will!!
syrsyr – quit spamming you jack-a$$.
Hmmm, ‘m not to sure about this trailer so far….WAIT…is that a rocket powered pirate ship?!? Where do i pre-order my tickets?????
I’m also impressed with this trailer. I love Johnny Depp…it doesn’t matter what he’s in, the movie is worthwhile because of him. I was a bit disappointed in the last 2 pirate movies but this one looks awesome
I love the Pirates canon, but…uh, this one is missing the spark of the first three. Is there a reason they changed directors? B/c, it clearly made a difference – and not a good one. Will still see it, b/c I love the stories told, thus far, but it looks a bit disorganized and mashed-up.
Really? You think THIS is Disorganized and mashed up? That describes 2 and 3 perfectly. I’m hoping this one is a little less jumbled and less “all over the place” than the last two were. Will definitley be seeing it!
Ian McShane= bada$$
Oh yea! I can’t wait 6 more full moons
What I think Josh? I think you need to take another look at that trailer which explicitly has a scene featuring Keith Richards as Jack Sparrow’s father.
Keith Richards was in the trailer.
Looks fantastic, I absolutely can’t wait for May 20th!
i was heart-broken when i found out the liz & will were not going to be in the 4th installment, but this trailer has given me reason to hope. it’s still the same old jack! welcome back jack!
NO LIZ & WILL!!!??? YIPPIEEEE!!!!!
Yah, it looks okay. But I just can’t get too excited about it without Elizabeth and Will.
ian mcshane is a great actor, good to see him getting some face time in a big movie
I am so excited for Ian McShane. Remember him for War and Remembrance more than anything but he as good on Deadwood and SUPERB on Kings. To see his name displayed prominently in the trailer brought a big smile to me.
Finally someone who agrees about Ian’s stellar performance in Kings!I thought I was the only one who thought that show was amazing! I’m glad he’ll be in this movie!
and Hot Rod!!!!!!
I absolutely loved Kings. One of my favorite TV shouws ever. too bad it cancelled after ONE season.
All my husband had to see was Ian-we are so in, didn’t even have to talk him into it
HATED EVERYTHING ABOUT THE LAST TWO, AND THIS ONE WILL PROBABLY EXACTLY THE SAME!! HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT!!!!! …….AND I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE IT, DEPP AND MCSHANE ARE THE $$$$HIT!!!!!!!!
Oh and yeah, I the real reason I can’t wait to see it, NO BLOOM, the most wooden actor in history!
There is something about Orlando Bloom that I am uncomfortable watching him on screen. Not sure what it is but I just can’t look at him without feeling squeamish.
Not to be rude, but THANK GOODNESS Will and Elizabeth won’t be in it. Both actors are nice enough, but their storyline was so much jumbled, tedious, never-ending hash. Bring on new storylines!!
Okay, I hated the way they ended the Will-Elizabeth story, too…but isn’t there a guy in this trailer who looks a little Bloomish gazing at an earnest young woman (mermaid?)…which leads me to think there will be another secondary romance which means multiple plotlines. And that means a looooong running time. Having said all that…yeah, I know they’re going to make some of the same mistakes as the last two, and I am going to see it on the first weekend anyway. Just hoping not to feel like a total sucker when I do.
Ugh! It really does seem to be a new pair of time wasting, young lovers to replace Will/Elizabeth. Do not want! I hope the zombie pirates kill them.
Its not a young couple…its jack and penelopes characters in the fountain of youth!
Agreed. They’re seen at the end of the 3rd movie was vomit-inducing.
Its good to know Jack still makes me laugh like crazy but yeah im really bummed theres no will and elizabeth
No interest in this movie whatsoever. A little of Jack Sparrow goes a long way. The character has grown silly and just annoying. I bleive the POTC saga ended and there shouldn’t be a fourth one.
Uh ya there should! The last one ended with jack heading for the fountain of youth!!!!!
I love the idea of penelope cruz being in this new one. she will definitely live up to replacing the mess kiera and orlando created. and there is just something incredibly hot about johnny getting lashed in spanish by her.
i think it’ll be different but in a good way, we’re just so used to damsel in distress and the blacksmith/wannabe pirate. we need some NEW action! heehee
Completely on board with this…more Jack Sparrow! YAY!
