The Directors Guild of America has announced its nominees for Outstanding Achievement in Documentaries for the year 2010. They are:
Linxin Fan, Last Train Home
Charles Ferguson, Inside Job
Alex Gibney, Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer
Davis Guggenheim, Waiting for “Superman”
Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger, Restrepo
This is the first DGA award nomination for every nominee save one; Alex Gibney was nominated in the same category, and won an Oscar, for 2007′s Taxi to the Dark Side. Guggenheim took home an Academy Award for his 2006 documentary An Inconvenient Truth.

I’m happy for these films/directors, but I was really hoping to see “Exit Through the Gift Shop” on the list. Great film!!
I wonder why Joan Rivers: Piece of Work is being ignored. It’s a great movie.
Because she’s “Joan Rivers” and so-called “serious” industry people can’t bear the thought of letting her into their ranks. A shame, because it was a compelling film.
Exit Through the Gift Shop? That did come out in 2010, yes?
Joan Rivers walking down the red carpet interviewing herself while following Osama bin Laden’s dialysis cord…would be hysterical.
waiting for superman is such a slanderous piece of trash toward america’s teachers. It deserves nothing
Totally agree with nomination for Last Train Home. One of the best documentaries I’ve seen in years, and I’ve seen a lot of good ones!
For someone to say that they do not like Gwyneth Paltrow because she took time off from her career to have a husband And a family, definitely needs to examine THEIR priorities! Also, what star HAS made all the right choices about their career. As we moviegoers all know, some stars choose movies for their content & and choose some movies for how much MONEY that they will likely make. Otherwise, a lot of small independent movies would not get made, for example, The Hurt Locker, which WON Academy Awards, would probably have not been made, if the actors, directors, etc. had not made enough money elsewhere, as in big budget-surefire-that-the-public-will-like-movies. A good new year’s resolution might be to stay positive about our outlook about things.
