'Lethal Weapon' reboot in the works at Warner Bros.

Danny Glover’s Roger Murtaugh might be too old for this s—, but Warner Bros. is betting that a new generation is ready for another Lethal Weapon film. A spokesperson from Warner Bros. confirms to EW that a fifth Lethal Weapon film, which has been bouncing around their offices for a long time, has been farmed out to writer Will Beall (Castle). (Deadline first reported the story.) Rather than reunite Glover and Mel Gibson for another adventure, however, Beall will reportedly reboot the franchise with new characters.

We’re getting to old for this stuff…

  • Alex

no no don’t do that!! Lethal Weapon is Murtaugh and Riggs!

    • LOL

Maybe Mel can fight the Jews in this one?

      • Baba Booey’s Terribel Throwing Arm

And Danny can try to hail a cab.

      • Baba Booey’s Terrible Throwing Arm

        Stupid typos.

Why do they have to keep remaking movies that were done right the first time? I have no interest in seeing a remake of this movie.

Here’s an idea….DON’T see it. Derrrrrrr. Just because it’s made doesn’t mean you have to be bothered by it. Just ignore it and stop whining…

  • Jay

So basically a Lethal Weapon reboot will be…… just another run of the mill buddy cop movie.

    • Kate

Agreed. It’s only Lethal Weapon with Murtaugh and Riggs. Those characters made the movie, not that they were cops. I hate when they try to dupe people into seeing something out of loyalty to the brand.

  • EC

why? why? why? come up with something new & original for once!

  • Kat

Okay I normally don’t care when they reboot franchises or remake ’80s classics or whatever, but the Lethal Weapon movies are almost sacred to me, and this news greatly worries me. I’m open to the idea of new characters, but they better do a damn good job nailing the appropriate buddy chemistry, humor, and significant-but-not-too-gratuitous explosions/general destructiveness.

NO! Do it w/ Riggs and Murtaugh or leave it alone. That’s like trying to replace Bruce Willis in Die Hard. Ridiculous.

    • ks

Totally agree!! They were the best together.

      • Monty

WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT OUT LOUD??? Now, thanks to you, a Die Hard reboot is being pitched…

  • Nerwen Aldarion

NOOO!!! I LOVE the Lethal Weapon franchise and shudder to think of how Hollywood is going to ruin it now!!!

  • FallonA

I believe Its Always Sunny in Pennsylvania already shot a Lethal Weapon 5.

I don’t know how they are going to top Mac in black face. hahahah

    • Ericalee

Haha yes. This was my first thought!!! No need for another remake after that!

  • A-K87

This remake malarky is getting out of hand.

    Lethal Weapon shouldn’t be touched.

Why can’t they write something original instead.

  • Mephysto

Oh awesome, another pointless remake I will avoid… just like I did with the Karate?! Kid

  • Justin

Some remakes I can accept. This is not one of them. Lethal Weapon has and always will be Murtaugh and Riggs, or Danny Glover and Mel Gibson.

  • Jasmine

Can we just not and say we didn’t?

  • Hooray

OMG I am so excited for this!

I love remakes and this is a movie that NEEDED to be remade. I have never met one person who liked the original. It was terrible. Dull, no action, barely coherent dialogue.

I hope they make this quickly and cast a decent few actors in it. I’m thinking Chace Crawford and Chad Michael Murray. They’d be really good.

    MAKE THIS MOVIE QUICKLY!

    • Sepen

Or better yet, Dennis Rodman and Dolph Lundgren!

  • shauna

Without Murtaugh and Riggs, what is the point of calling it Lethal Weapon? I get it that they are milking the name, but is there going to be some sort of tie in to the series?
