Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures have decided to release its forthcoming WWII superhero opus Captain America: The First Avenger with the abridged title of The First Avenger in South Korea, Russia and the Ukraine. As EW reported last fall in our first look at the film, Marvel has been mulling this move for some time, as it was concerned that a movie with the words “Captain America” in the title might be a tough sell in certain territories for various reasons. A source indicates the decision was made for brand management reasons, not political ones. Captain America: The First Avenger, which will be released in the United States on July 22, not only functions as the launch of a Captain America franchise, but as a prologue to Marvel’s The Avengers, due in 2012.

They do still know they are watching an American movie, with American actors in it right? Just because it won’t have the title America in the movie, doesn’t mean it doesn’t have any American anythings in it!
It’s just stupid old communist who pretend to be capitalist! They cover up for there hatred for america, don’t let MARVEL fool when they say it’s all for a brand! I say if they don’t want are movies, then why let them have em!
Remember what line they took out of Superman Returns people?
what line was taken out?
I believe they replaced “truth, justice and the American way” with…”truth, justice and all that stuff”…one in many reasons why that movie sucked.
If Dee’s referring to Perry White’s abridgment of Superman’s creed to “truth, justice, all that stuff,” that’s really not much of a point, as “the American way” wasn’t added until a few years into the radio show’s run (approx. 1943). It even disappeared a couple of years later, only to return for the TV show.
As most of the fighting in wwII in Europe was done in eastern Europe, the Russians & Ukrainians may resent the implication that the USA won the war all by itself.
its always captain america and always will. What about other movies with american in them. American grafitti. American splendor. American pie. If u screen them there do u call them grafitti, slpendor, pie. Do u really wanna see stifler in pie or american pie
The Captain has always had the ability to come off as a bit stodgy and even jingoistic, but always I thought that was part of the character’s charm: he really IS your granddad’s superhero, you know? If that’s a tough sell in Asia, so be it, but I can see the marketing sense in not putting America in the title: it’s a comic-book and they need to make a lot of money from places like Asia to do the sequel, fan-boy!
Call it what you want, it is still an American movie with an American history. I don’t think they should change it for anything especially in Russia(screw them). They should be happy that we are providing them with top notch entertainment.
Some you guys need to learn how to spell, additionally studying some international politics/geography would help; Russia, Ukraine, and SK are all Democractic nations.
Captian America was originally created as A PROPAGANDA TOOL, but has come to mean more to comic book lovers today.
And lastly if you want your customers money get ready to kiss some ass being dumb and ignorant is not a good start to anything.
