Withnail & I filmmaker Bruce Robinson and is based on a semi-autobiographical book by the late gonzo writer Hunter S. Thompson. “It’s a special little film,” says Depp, who previously channeled Thompson’s writing in 1998’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. “The Rum Diary is one that I feel should be promoted a lot differently than most films. Of course, there’s the press junkets and the premieres and whatnot. But Hunter used to go and do talks at colleges and things like that. I feel like I want Bruce and I to get in a bus and drive to three, four different schools, and go and talk to people.”Johnny Depp tells EW he would like to promote his forthcoming film, The Rum Diary, with a bus tour of colleges.
