Most Sundance films, of course, are indie entries searching for a distributor in Park City. But one of the movies that’s using the festival as a launch pad for an imminent theatrical run is Cedar Rapids, Ed Helms’ goofy and quite touching comedy that Fox Searchlight will release next month. Helms is here in Utah with his castmates Anne Heche and Isiah Whitlock, Jr. (Senator Clay Davis from The Wire) as well as director Miguel Arteta (Youth in Revolt). I grabbed the quartet for a few minutes to talk about Helms’ frequent nudity in the film (particularly with Kurtwood Smith, aka the dad from That ’70s Show) and their MIA costar John C. Reilly.

The trailer for this looks promising.
I just love that Sen. Clay Davis makes a reference to The Wire.
I saw this trailer in theaters and literally right before he said that line I had just turned to my friend and gone, “he’s from The Wire”. Shiiiiiiiiiit.
As a native Cedar Rapidian, I have high hopes…there better be some corn / soybean / pork references
As someone who’s lived in CR for a number of years, there better not be. I’m sick of my city and state being known for nothing but crops when we have other things to offer. Remember when the levee broke a few years back, and CR STILL hasn’t recovered from the flood? Why do you think no one cares? Because to the coasts we’re fly-over farmland and nothing else. The rest of the country are snobs, and I hope this film doesn’t prove it.
Relax Rica. They filmed most of the movie in Michigan.
My sense of irony is intact.
