Will Kristen Stewart play Snow White?

Kristen-StewartImage Credit: Stephen Lovekin/Getty ImagesLast month we wondered which Hollywood lady might be best to play Snow White in Universal’s upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman. Today brings a new and interesting twist, as Kristen Stewart is the latest name being mentioned for being in talks with the studio to play the fairy tale princess. Plus, as Variety reports, the studio is courting Viggo Mortensen to play the role of the titular Huntsman.

If Kristen Stewart (who is still at work on the last Twilight installment, Breaking Dawn) came aboard, along with Mortensen and Charlize Theron — long rumored to be in negotiations to play the evil Queen — this Snow White project directed by Rupert Sanders is shaping up to have some major star power. Between the rival Snow White project, all this new casting news, and Catherine Hardwicke’s Red Riding Hood on the horizon, can we surmise that this is, in fact, all part of  the Twilight effect?

    *puke*

    • LOL

Does Snow White have a cig and weed habit?

      • HC

umm duh, why else would she hang out with all those dwarfs?!

    • Paul

I would love Kristen in this role!

    • jodipo

I would say people are being too harsh, but she’s seriously one of the most unattractive people I’ve ever seen. Not just in looks but in personality and just the way she carries herself in general. Also, she can’t act.
Snow White is supposed to be the fairest of them all…meaning beautiful. The best choice for this role would be Felicity Jones.

      • Iira

I agree, she is NOT pretty and CANNOT act. She ruined the Twilight movies for me. What crazy person thought this was a good idea? Well, now I’m sad as that was one movie I would have loved to see but now am completely turned off by.

    • Japanese HIROSHI

I’m not being sarcastic. But if this version of Snow White should be more depressed and full of sadness, perhaps Stewart is one of the good candidates. Plus Stewart looks relevant as Snow White, as seen from this very Getty Image (1/30/2001 21:45 Jpn time).

(Given the title, iss it gonna be a typically horror flick?)

And I prefer Marion Cotillard or Penelope Cruz as the evil queen instead (an accent coach in need, though). (I’m not implying that Indo-European women look cruel, by the way.)

To throw in some name in RANDOM (the blond Snow White version): Amanda Seyfried, Evan Rachel Wood (only if she’s willing to stay blond), Blake Lively, etc.

    • alejandra

Kstew is the female verisn of chuck norris. If we wanted a cheap actress that nobody hasheard of exepct of one role we would choose the vampire diarys chick. How may ppl can ne other roles mrs stefan has been In? The only reason ppl know kstew is because we had a lost hope that se was too new to know how to do anything. Dissapointed!

    • say wat?

Wouldn’t snow white get in the way of Breaking Dawn.part 1&2 ? Just pointing tht out….

    • say wat?

Woludnt snow white get in the way fo Breaking Dawn part 1&2?………… just pointing that out……….

  • Ash

Snow White is supposed to be the fairest of them all. Not a sullen, awkward girl. People will be wondering why the hell did the damn mirror choose Kristen over Charlize

    • StewyFan

      That’s why it’s called acting.

      • Robin

This vapid twit couldn’t act if her life depended on it. She has NO emotions. She’s like a mannequin.

      • Linney

She couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag.

      • alejandra

A maniquin on somehin more than cigs……….:(

      • Keli

Lol! I agree with all the comments that Stewart can’t act. She has no personality but depression. She would be perfect for the part where Snow White is in the casket though. No acting needed. I still wish they would replace her with the girl from Vampire Diaries to play in Breaking Dawn. She is going to have to learn how to smile.

    • Karate Pants

I’m sort of indifferent about it, but also intrigued and encouraged that they didn’t pick a ‘perfect’ beauty like Allison Brie.

      • justpassingby2

Ooo, Allison Brie WOULD be the perfect pick for this. But Ash made a good point – how the heck would the mirror pick the emo chick over Charlize Theron?

      • Japanese HIROSHI

        @ Karate Pants:

Good call for Allison Brie. She could look Snow White, more or less.

What about her ability to act, and, possibly more importantly, her POWER TO DRAW the audience?

    • Japanese HIROSHI

      @ Ash:

I hear you. But moithinks “they” are quite apparently looking to seal the deal with someone younger – a la femme in 20s.

Theron is doubtless beautiful, but not overall suitable for the role, especially in terms of global marketing – I suppose.

IMO, the evil queen should be someone who looks like (the younger) Angelica Huston or Glen Close (both IN THEIR PRIME back then, of course). Just say’n.

      • Japanese HIROSHI

“Theron is doubtless beautiful, but not overall suitable for the role, especially in terms of global marketing – I suppose.”

About her being Show White in in 201x.

    • tipsy

Kristen is a beautiful girl so I don`t get where the “unattractive chick” talk comes from. But Charlize is tought act to follow in beauty department, on that I agree.

      • Japanese HIROSHI

        @ Tipsy,

They were comparing Stewart and Theron in re Beauty Department. IMO, they didn’t obviously say Stewart is unattractive or anything to that effect, though.

  • Linney

Dear God, please no. She’s got the acting ability of a door nail. I’m “sure” she’s a lovely person but why on earth does anyone find her talented?

    • j

      Agreed!

    • CD

      I agree!!

    • Dee

Kristen does not have the POWER TO DRAW the audience. Proof is in The Runaways and Welcome to the Rileys. Twilight and her character Bella is what draws people to see her in the saga.

      • Japanese HIROSHI

        @ Dee,

But peoples around the world know her as Bella. (I’m not especially rooting for her, though.)

    • Keli

Totally agree! They need someone who is goin to be able to laugh and sing and smile. They need someone that doesn’t have to try to be happy. A doc should put Stewart on happy pills.

  • justink

    Seriously….

  • whatevs

I’m not sure this fairy tale calls for the evil queen to be much more beautiful than the protagonist.

    • Mele

Except for Angelina, I’d say Theron is the most beautiful actress in Hollywood, she’s stunning. As far as the younger crowd of actresses, Stewart is one of the most beautiful, there may be prettier ones but not by much (IMO!).

      • Jem

Theron looks way more beautiful than Angelina. They used to be equals in beauty but Jolie looks too skinny and weak lately. Theron is more radiant and beautiful.

      • alejandra

I wonder how she came to be so weak and skinny…………..ideas Anybody?

  • petuniafromhell

This better be the Chris Nolan version of Snow White for Viggo Mortensen to be in this movie.

    • Liz

      totally agree!

  • K

I suggest you go and read the script this isn’t a Disney movie its gritty and personally think Kristen would be perfect for the part

    • BC

Kristen – please stop posting on EW comment boards and take some acting lessons.

    • Linney

I’m sick of people saying she’d be perfect playing a part because her sour attitude and miserable face fit right in. If she wants to act, she should learn how and not rely on turning every part she plays into yet another version of her actual personality.

    • Steph

Whiny does not equal gritty. It equal whiny.
…which is what kristen Stewart does…over and over again. She is a terrible actress.

Now, if they’re looking for a Snow White who regularly bites her lips and looks disoriented, then K-Stew is the girl for you!

    • chris c

She would be great! BC go suck it!!!!

  • Kelly

I think she’d be great in the part.

  • Sara

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Snow White SMILES on occasion, right? This is absolutely the wrong choice. Her flat, emotionless acting shouldn’t ruin a classic.

    • CD

      LOL you are so right!!

  • Annie

Mila Kunis would make a better Snow White than Kristin Stewart.

  • Mallory

No. No. No. No. No. If Kristen Stewart is in this movie, I will not go see it. She can’t act, and Charlize Theron is *way* more beautiful, even when she was in the make-up for “Monster”. None of this makes sense. Choose a good actress, not someone who’s famous because of a crappy vampire love story.

    • alejandra

      True that

  • Irwin

I think Kristen’s quite good, though somewhat wasted on the mediocre Twilight stuff. As Snow White, I’m not sure! As someone pointed out, I’m not sure this calls for the moody, sullen type. She was great as Joan Jett and in Adventureland, but here…???

    • Nicole

I hated Adventureland! She was decent in “Speak” in my opinion

      • dizzy

Although I think she’s not that great of an actress, she was pretty decent in “Speak”.

      • alejandra

        What’s Speak?

  • Me

I think the obvious choice would be Michelle Trachtenberg. Not sparkly vampire girlfriend.

    • alejandra

I’m sorry but if you live in the forest and glitter, you are a fariy, not a vampire.

  • rccoley

It’s official, Hollywood has run out of ideas…worst yet, it has run out of decent actresses! If Kristin Stewart and her “I have the same expression for every emotion”, non talented self, is the best they can find then they’d be better off not doing this one!

  • DMR

Come on people! With a acting range from sulking teenage brat to sulking teenage pouting girl she would be the perfect Snow White. (/sarcasm off)
