New 'Scream 4' poster: 'New decade. New rules.'

The new poster for the new Scream is here, and it is a direct descendant of previous Scream 3 posters. The “New decade. New rules” tag certainly didn’t apply to the art department at Dimension. Though did you notice how the numeral leapfrogged the dangerous-looking “M,” going from SCREAM3 to SCRE4M? Can we look forward to SC5EAM?

Scream 4 comes out April 15.

Here’s hoping the movie isn’t anyway near as phoned in as this poster.

    • Jamaaliver

lol…Just what the world was missing out on. A fourth Scream movie.

      • Jon

Yes, and the world needs all the brain-dead action flicks, pretentious dramas, and moronic comedies that Hollywood will pump out in 2011 as well. Yawn.

  • Zebra6

NOT FUNNY. YOU are a vicious writer

  • GOB

It’s a franchise, starring the same actors as the past 3 films. What did you expect? I’m not saying I like the poster, but rebranding this with a completely different concept/design would be confusing to the audience. It’s not like it’s a total reboot, like Tim Burton’s Batman vs. Chris Nolan Batman. It’s ugly, but it makes sense, from a marketing perspective.

    • Mr. Holloway

What you’re saying makes sense, in that this is precisely the type of poster that you would expect for the continuation of an established franchise.

However, that’s EXACTLY what I hate about it. Why wouldn’t you try to do something interesting (or at least a clever tweak on the original concept/design) to get people excited? As it stands, it looks like all they did was take the “Scream 3″ poster and replaced the “3″ with a “4.”

Like I said in my original comment, I just hope this lack of imagination doesn’t extend to the actual movie.

I’m excited for this new film in the Scream series…The first 3 were fun crowd pleasers….I have missed horror films like that….I am so tired of the gruesome Scream and Hostel movies that are not scary but just really gross…….The late 90′s had fun scary movies that had the killer pop out and get ya..Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legends, and so on.

    • timbo

      *gruesome Saw and Hostel movies

    • Brian Wallace

Actually, I thought the first two were “fun crowd pleasers”. Scream 3 was pretty weak.

    As opposed to SC5EAM wouldn’t 5CREAM be better? It’s clear, 5 & S are nearly identical.

    • Dave

I’d just be calling it “Five Cream” forever…

  • Japanese HIROSHI

    “New Decade. New Rules.”

Good job, IMO. I believe it’ll work, especially to the original audience.

As for the poster (shown here), it could have been better, IMO. Just say’n.

  • justin

    Cant. Wait.

  • JPX

New decade, new rules, same big yawn. The Scream sequels have all been awful and the original Scream barely holds up upon repeated viewings. Wes Craven refuses to accept that it is no longer the 1990s. Has anyone tried to make it through My Soul to Take?

    • John T.

I totally disagree with that statement. I love all three Scream movies and can’t wait for this one. And MSTT wasn’t that bad, maybe it helped that I saw it in 2-D and for free.

      • JPX

“maybe it helped that I saw it in 2-D and for free.” Ha! It’s true, I tend to be more favorable of movies when they are free, especially in the age of being price-gouged for 3D.

  • Justin

Scream 4 can’t be as bad as most of the horror films that have put out since Scream was last on the big screen in 2000! So there you go

  • Japanese HIROSHI

EW: “And, should Scream 4 become a hit, you are signed on for Scream 5 and 6, right?”

WES CRAVEN: “Yeah, I’m signed on for the duration.”

Amen : ) Count me in, too.

    @ JPX,

I think one of the reasons that new kids, including Emma Roberts, are brought in to play is for the good of novelty (after all, it’s so new a decade) – that is, also to draw younger audience (late teen and early 20s in particular). When it comes to SCREAM franchise, I trust Craven and Dimension Films, especially Bob Weinstein, know what they’re doing.

And so, once again I look forward to having a great time with Sidney, Gale, Dewey and all new kids on the block, too. : )

Don’t get me wrong, Japanese HIROSHI, of course I’ll watch this film. I just find that American horror has not been very exciting for a long time and it seems like we keep getting the same stale “scares” over and over rather than some fresh ideas. The French, for example, are putting out some really interesting stuff like Severance, Martyrs, and Inside. The Spanish film, Orphanage, was very creepy as well. Although it is becoming tiresome, the Japanese have also put out a lot of great stuff over the past decade. I can’t recall the last time I thought an American film was Scary. I would say The Ring, but that was a remake and not an original idea.

        OK! I hear ya. Peace. : )

By the way, kudos to some French and Spanish horror flicks you’ve just mentioned.

All I can think about regarding the Scream franchise is that the first movie was huge because they confronted cliches and did what no one expected… killed off a big star (drew barrymore) in the first 5 minutes. They repeated the same with Jada Pinkett Smith in #2. This time, I predict that they will put a twist on this formula… you think it will be Hayden P. or Emma…. but it will be Neve. I have the feeling she won’t live to see the end of the movie, and I don’t know how I feel about that.

    • Japanese HIROSHI

      @ Jen,

I’m not sure if it’s worth killing off Emma Roberts in the beginning. And personally I find it almost impossible, given her name’s been featured in the main billing here. Not to mention it would break some hearts in the relatively younger audience. She seems to have been set to create overall momentum along with the original cast members in the movie, I “guess.”

And methinks it would be a huge mistake to slash off Sidney in the opening!

But I won’t be surprised if she’s gone mad and turns out to be one of the killers, LOL. (Sorry, my bad.)

      • A

Emma Roberts will be a survivor in this film. It seems clear that they probably want her to carry the new trilogy, taking Neve Campbell’s role. Hayden and Neve obviously won’t be opening scene deaths because if you watch the trailer, they are featured prominently in it, in various scenes/different outfits.

      • Japanese HIROSHI

        @ A,

Thanks. I think you’re right about Sidney — I just watched the trailer following my previous post.

        - –

“It seems clear that they probably want her to carry the new trilogy, taking Neve Campbell’s role.”

If that’s the case, I’m not sure if Craven and Dimension Films’ve made the right decision. But seeing is believing . . .

(I’d like to think that she worked HARD for a supposedly major role in this franchise, but her last name always reminds me of her beautiful AUNT [reading: and HER connection]. . . – I might think too much.)

  • Jose

Gosh, the previous two posters for Scream 4 were so much better.

    • justin

I believe there was only one poster before this new one.

  • Lauren

Cannot Wait. I have total faith that this movie will be awesome, or at least better than all those stupid Saw movies, all those horrible horror movie remakes and the like. Can’t wait for this! Can’t say I’m a fan of the poster though . . .

  • arben

Can we look forward to SC5EAM?
Nope: 5CREAM (followed by S6REAM, SCRE7M, and SCR8AM). Just guessing, though.
