Mark Wahlberg and director David O. Russell have made three films together: Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees, and now The Fighter. Though some actors (George Clooney and Lily Tomlin among them) have famously battled Russell on set over the years, he and Wahlberg seem to be the perfect match for each other. In Part 1 of our three-part EW video interview, we talk about why they work well together and how Russell inadvertently helped Wahlberg come up with the concept for Entourage. Watch it below:

Nice to see that you guys did this interview at Hogwarts.
lol
Nice.
Zzzz, so boring. “David is a kind, warm-hearted guy” says Mark as David calls Lily Tomlin nasty names on set and throttles George Clooney. Interesting, but useless assessment from a guy who picks on gays and is a member of the O. Russell-Bale hostility camp.
What say George and Lily?
And there’s two more parts of this useless banter? The interviewees clearly would much rather be somewhere else.
Granted, O. Russell has made some pretty good movies, but DAMN he comes across like a self-satisfied egotist with a very punchable face when interviewed.
at 1:55 russell looks like christoph waltz
I was wondering when someone like this would pop up.
I’ve had the chance to work with David Russell on several projects. He’s passionate, smart and generous with his time in helping young writers and directors.
Damn they are desperatly trying to rehabilitate Russells image – “Im a nice guy – please give the fighter an Oscar” lol.
This is more awkward than Melissa Leo’s ads.
I just saw The Fighter this weekend. All I could think was that Marky Mark should not do any more movies set in the 90′s because I kept expecting the Funky Bunch to pop up in the background.
MARK WAHLBERG WAS IN THE FIGHTER?!?!?! Dang, I don’t think I even noticed him hahaha. I think everybody in the film and those handing it the awards forgot too lol
First of all, you looked great at the luncheon, Dave.

And Kudos to David O. Russell for a cool flick like THREE KINGS; sorry, not much love for HUCKABEES here. . .
PS: Any coverage on Jennifer Lawrence, Michelle Williams, Annette Bening, Hailee Steinfeld, the glamorous Melissa Leo, Christopher Nolan, Coen Brothers, Hans Zimmer et al, kindly have it uploaded, svp. Thanks.
like how mark is playing with his ipod/cellphone whatever the hell it is
just like the little brat sitting next to me while watching “the fighter.”
Despite his best attempts, and despite Mark’s help, David will never prove he is a “good warm-hearted guy.” I and many others who have worked for and with him know that he is a narcissistic amoral jerk who feels entitled to yell and throw fits when he does not get his way. He is a decently talented director but there are so many others who are more talented. And being good at the job is about more than what ends up on screen. He’s a really awful person.
These things keep popping up because they’re true. He’s a horrible human being who verbally, emotionally and physically abuses those around him. And no amount of spin will change that.
Doesn’t he have the right to bitch and wine if he doesn’t get his way, is that not what directors are supposed to do? & is it not there job to tell you what to do, because regardless they are the Captain of the movie, besides the producers?
Being in charge does not give anyone the right to throw tantrums, shout insults or assault people. Would you want him for a boss?
