'Arthur' poster: Fun enough?

Like the movie itself, the one-sheet for the Russell Brand-starring remake of Arthur has a lot to live up to. A bunch of toys on the floor, while playful, can’t compare to that iconic shot of Dudley Moore in a bubble bath. That read decadence and total abandon. This reads man-child, which is a common theme nowadays and less exciting. I do appreciate the Magritte-inspired hat though.

Do you agree that the next poster for the April release needs to let loose a little? I suspect the studio wants to get Helen Mirren and Jennifer Garner on the poster for star power, but perhaps once we approach the release date, it can gamble on a Brand solo shot bold enough to make you stop in a theater lobby. This one seems like a wasted opportunity.

P.S. I know she’s playing a nanny, but even nanny Helen Mirren deserves better shoes. Click here for a larger image.

i watched “get him to the greek” last weekend, and was surprised by how much i didn’t hate him in that movie. what really bothers me about this is the horrible photoshopping.

      • Karate Pants

I agree, I enjoyed him in both Get Him to the Greek and Forgetting Sarah Marshall…but this Arthur remake looks like a stinker.

    • Ana

The movie might be okay but I do think it’s a completely unnecessary movie, not unlike that remake of “Psycho” a few years ago.

I just don’t see how someone as one trick as Brand can recreate what Dudley Moore did. And as adorable as Jennifer Garner is, no way can she outshie Liza Minelli in that role. I love Helen Mirren enough to give her a shot though.

outshine, before the grammar police attack

I saw this and had to laugh. People are so annoying on this site, honestly. God forbid you accidentally forget to type a letter. They really have nothing better to do with their time, and its sad.

      • Joe

There’s a big difference between pointing out typos (like a missing letter) and pointing out huge, glaring grammatical ignorance. I’m an Eglish teacher, and it’s truly horrifying what passes for acceptable language these days.

I don’t think Jennifer Garner is in the Liza Minelli role. I think she is in the Jill Eikenberry role.

    • Emma

Jennifer Garner’s playing Susan, the Jill Eikenberry role. I don’t know why they’ve pumped up that role so much and violently downplayed the Liza Minnelli Linda role, which is being played by Greta Gerwig, and is shown in one blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene in the trailer.

Bad poster. I will not see this movie, not based on this poster, but on the assumption that it won’t be funny.

  • Luddite

Instead of seeing this, I think I’ll just watch the original again. There’s no competing with a movie that features 2 EGOTers.

  • BlackIrish4094

This looks horrible, I’m reallu surprised Helen Mirren signed on for this.

    • Felix

Helen Mirren also signed on for Inkheart and National Treasure 2. Hollywood doesn’t care if you’re a brilliant actress…if you’re not a twentysomething with huge knockers, you’re doing on the D-list.

      • Dave

And not all twentysomethings with huge knockers end up on the A list either, **cough cough Megan Fox cough***.

  • Strepsi

@ MANDI BIERLY – you are so right about the “man-child” trope being tiresome – -can EW do a piece on it, and try to convince Hollywood to STOP?

As someone who loves comedy, and loves comedians, I am so tired of this Ferrell-Sandler-Carrell-Morgan “Adult man acting like a loud infantile 12 year old” schtick, it’s kind of nauseating.

  • Adam

Why not remake “The White Album” while we’re at it?

  • sp

I saw the trailer last weekend- absolutely horrid and unfunny.

  • Brynna

The trailer looks great, so I’m looking forward to this one.

  • dee123

God help me, the trailer doesn’t look that bad but it is just a trailer. Having Helen Mirren, Nick Nolte and L&O’s Leslie Hendrix in it help.

I have been browsing on-line greater than 3 hours as of late, yet I never discovered any fascinating article like yours. It’s beautiful worth enough for me. Personally, if all web owners and bloggers made good content material as you probably did, the internet will be much more useful than ever before.
