A newish trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon debuted during the Daytona 500 on Sunday. The 30-second spot wasn’t hugely different from the Super Bowl trailer: Same Inception-y foghorn on the soundtrack, same apparent refusal to let new series star Rosie Huntington-Whiteley speak on camera. However, there are two noteworthy additions. First, a bit of expository dialogue from John Turturro, who says somberly, “Years from now they’re gonna ask us: Where were you when they took over the planet?” (Hmmm, sounds like full-scale global war between the Autobots and the Decepticons.) The second comes at about the 24-second mark, when we meet a new cast member: a Transformer designed to look exactly like a NASCAR auto. Check out the full trailer after the jump…
I wonder if the nascar sponsors will sue the autobot in the movie for just transforming their logos onto himself without authorization…or if they are just happy for the free publicity?
Are you really that dumb? Nascar and all the sponsers gave their permission for the car designs to be used in the movie!
I meant sue them in the movie, as in, within the script, because Im assuming a space alien super machine isnt going to go get special permission from Coke or Budweiser to put their decals on his camo.
I had though the transformers taking shapes of earth vehicles was to stay hidden, somehow a fully decked out nascar cruising the streets of NYC isnt all that suttle to me. But Im sure theres a good reason for it in the plot…heh….
The three cars were at the Daytona 500 on Sunday too, drove behind the field on the final pace lap before the race started… but hey, being informed never stopped me from posting something either!
And they were all Chevys – so let’s lay the “blame” where it should belong, and not on the governing body, but the manufacturer.

How is it EW is just discovering this? It has been known there were going to be NASCAR bots since they started filming in Chicago in June/July/August of this year. Perhaps its below your journalistic standards, but don’t you guys ever check out any fan sites when these movies are being filmed to see what people who were at the filming saw and took pictures of?
