Image Credit: Andrew Evans/PR PhotosJulianne Hough is in final negotiations to join Adam Shankman’s Rock of Ages, but the director tweeted that it’s a done deal: “Yes, it’s true. Julianne Hough was beyond brilliant in her audition, and will be rocking the role of Sherrie Christian in #rockofagesmovie.” Her spokesperson confirms a Variety report that she’s close to signing on to play Sherrie, the small-town Kansas girl who comes to Hollywood to make it big. Tom Cruise will play the callous rock star who she falls for. Though known as a champion ballroom dancer who starred in Dancing With the Stars, Hough is also an accomplished country singer, with two albums to her credit.
Hough, who left Dancing With the Stars after season 8, made her film debut in last year’s Burlesque and will star in the remake of Footloose in October. She will also receive the Rising Star of 2011 Award at CinemaCon (formerly ShoWest) on March 31.

I enjoy Adam Shankman’s work, I think Julianne Hough is talented and Tom Cruise, he has his moments. But the ages difference between the actors playing the same roles on Broadway was 4 or 5 years. Here it’s TWENTY SIX. Julianne’s only five years older than his daughter. That is a little creepifying.
Don’t mind Tom playing “rock god” Stacy. After Tropic Thunder, I think he’ll do well here.
