Carrie Fisher, daughter of Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, is the latest Hollywood actress to offer kind words about Elizabeth Taylor, who passed away Wednesday. In a statement, Fisher, Taylor’s one-time stepdaughter, said: “A woman who rarely did things in half measure. Elizabeth lived her life to the fullest, whether by loving to the fullest or while also giving us some of the most memorable performances ever on film. A devoted mother many times over and even very briefly a stepmother to my brother Todd and myself, loyal to the lifelong friends surrounding her — even with all this she found time to become one of the earliest champions for those living with HIV.”
The statement continues: “If my father had to divorce my mother for anyone — I’m so grateful that it was Elizabeth. This was a remarkable woman who led her life to the fullest rather than complacently following one around. She will be missed but never forgotten.” Debbie Reynolds, Fisher’s mother, also spoke to EW about Taylor — see what she had to say here.

Liz was overrated, Judy Garland was the best talent of the Golden Age.
Yeah, not the best time to be saying something like that. Take your bitterness elsewhere.
katie, aren’t you being rather judgemental? people are entitled to their opinions!
Wow what a compassionate human being. Your parents must be so proud.
Wow, pot meet kettle.
grow up, child, and dont play with big words you don’t understand. I wasn’t aware stating one’s opinion (or in this case, fact) like pointing out how overrated Liz was while praising another talented actress made her a MEANIE HEAD.
overrated is putting it politely.
class act.
Taylor made many friends, even some who logic would have suggested otherwise. A class act indeed.
HAHAHAHAHAHA… you obviously mean some other Liz Taylor that was not a spoiled brat with her movies (or any time) and went after a married man, encouraged him to divorce his wife, and was a total witch about it, on top of just having no class in general.
so yeah, wrong Liz.
As a young man going to movies I would sit and watch and not really think to much about what I was seeing, then I saw the move Giant. Taylor’s performance just reached me and for the first time someone on screen touched me. I was a life long fan from the moment on… To her family and friends sorry for your loss. The world has lost something and I don’t think we will ever see the likes of her again. Rest in peace Mrs. Taylor thank you for all the wonderful memories…
A Fan
No matter what you heard about her or know her as you can not deny she was and will always be remembered as a screen legend with true Beauty. Her eyes and dark flowing black hair in her prime were gorgeous. She fought for those with AIDS, a truly terrible and deadly disease and should be applaud for that.
Thank you for all you gave Elizabeth, my Mother and Grandmother LOVE your White Diamonds perfume.
RIP.
PS-on a side not, Carrie made a very classy and heartfelt comment. Holding a grudge is not the way to live life. Love you Carrie.
Sadly she herself was not gorgeous… inside or out. she was hideously overrated in every aspect, from her acting to her personality to her looks.
You also dont need to hold a grudge to dislike what someone did to you and your mother. Liz never seemed to have ANY repentence about that evil thing she did.
Carrie and her mother seemed to have moved on very nicely. Well” It has been 60 years. You would have thought that with Taylor feeling such grief for the loss of her husband, she wouldn’t have done that to another woman, especially her best friend. Doesn’t seem very considerate. I wonder if Debbie remained friends with Eddie. I’m guessing she didn’t. Of course to survive in Hollywood at that time, she had to get along wit Liz.
How gracious of Carrie. I have always loved her and her humor, strength and talent. Thanks, Carrie
Not sure why Carrie Fisher felt the need to come out pubicly in support of Liz after her death. Liz took her father away from her mother and broke up their family. So I do not understand how Carrie can be so gracious…..nor why she has made her feelings public about it. To each his own!
agreed.
It seems to me that Carrie and Debbie are commenting on the death of Elizabeth Taylor only to garner more publicity for themselves. That’s the way it is in Hollywood. Elizabeth did not take Eddie Fisher away from Debbie. Their marriage was doomed, but Eddie got the blame for the failure of the marriage. Elizabeth lived a full life with many excesses and it caught up with her. I was glad to read that she cried when she learned of Eddie’s death. Deep down she may have been a very nice person, despite all the hype through her life. You have to take what Debbie and Carrie say about Elizabeth with a grain of salt. They seem to like to re-write history.
