Armie Hammer will be turning on the charm as the handsome prince in one of the dueling Snow White movies currently in production, according to Relativity Films. Hammer, currently shooting Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar Hoover biopic with Leonardo DiCaprio, has joined the film starring Julia Roberts as the classic folktale’s Evil Queen. Best known for playing the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network, Hammer won’t play Prince Charming, but rather a character named Prince Albert Alcott.
At one point, Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, the upcoming Hanna) was in consideration for the lead role of Snow White, according to a source close to the production, but with the casting of 24-year-old Hammer, it is unlikely the 16-year-old Ronan will fit with the film.
Director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, Immortals) said casting Roberts as the queen was the pivotal role around which all the others revolved. “I just said, ‘What I want is the Queen, because that dictates how old Snow White is,’” he said in an earlier interview. “There’s a lot of banter between the prince and the queen and the person who is Snow White. So I knew the tough situation there was, if I went with Snow White, and went really young with her, and I got a queen who was much older, it would be really hard to play a comedy love-triangle with the prince because he could come off as pedophilic on one side and oedipal on the other. Now that we have the queen, I’m going 21-ish for Snow White and late 20s for the Prince, so the [love triangle] joke can still be played.”
The movie starts shooting in May with plans for a June 29, 2012 debut. Another film, Snow White and the Huntsman, is in pre-production at Universal and has Kristen Stewart in the lead with Charlize Theron as the queen. Viggo Mortensen was in talks for the role of the huntsman, who abandons his mission to kill Snow White and instead becomes her protector, but The Lord of the Rings star has reportedly bowed out. That film is set to debut in late December 2012.

He’s cute!! or dashing- a more fitting adjective for a prince.
Geez I can’t keep all these new fairytale movies straight.
You can pound me anytime with your “hammer”, Armie, Tee-hee!
Good casting. He looks like a Disney prince IRL.
Get Michael Fassbender in the role of the Woodsman
As for the second movie, what about Zooey Deschanel, Emily Blunt Or Even Ellen Page who has a classically shaped face in that day (think of Helena Bonham Carter in lady Jane)
NO!!! Then I would HAVE TO see the KS version (as I worship Michael Fassbender).
oh no. This Kristen Stewart thing is final? I didn’t know that. damn.
I know….gross, right? She is the worst actress and seems like a terribly person as well. I will most definitely NOT be seeing that Snow White movie.
Kristen Stewart as the sweet and charismatic “fairest in the land” is a sick joke.
Now the sourest of them all…maybe.
Agreed. And to think they want us to believe that Charlize Theron as the queen will be jealous of her?!
agreed! I didn’t know it was final… wow, I was actually looking forward to this until I saw she was playing Snow White…
That’s a different Snow White movie. You could see this one with Artie Hammer, KS isn’t in it.
Wow, just noticed I wrote “Artie”. Been watching too much Glee, I guess. That, and I’ve never heard of another “Armie”.
Sadly yes, good thing there’s this film.
He definitely has that whole Disney prince look going on, not to mention he’s a good actor, so this is pretty good casting. But I’m highly skeptical about both of these Snow White films. Are they just going to Twilight-ize them like they did with Red Riding Hood? If so, count me out.
how are they making two snow white films?
This is the Julia Roberts one, NOT the KStew one that Viggo just ran out on. There are TWO different Snow White projects. I had that sinking feeling in my stomach too until I saw that he was going to be in the Roberts version.
Yes, all of that is already stated in the article. Did you even read it?
Um, YEAH? But apparently tiavro up there didn’t, which is why I mentioned it. Jerk much?
From tiavro’s comment, in no way can you assume that he/she had the films mixed up. He/she was only commenting about the Kristen Stewart film.
just to clear things up, yes I know she’s not in the one the article is emphasizing, I was referring to: “Another film, Snow White and the Huntsman, is in pre-production at Universal and has Kristen Stewart in the lead with Charlize Theron as the queen.” This surprised me, because I didn’t know that she was definately in.
KS hasn’t been officially cast as SW but her publicist sure is making rounds to make everyone take it as fact that she is.
There are THREE projects actually. Disney’s making a live action version that will be set in China. It sounds like this Relativity one will be getting my money. No doubt. I love Arnie and I love Julia. Plus, this is based on the Grimm Tales.
And what a fine prince he would make…mmmmm!
So I guessed Viggo bowed out after Kristen was cast.
He’s a smart guy, that Viggo…
haha, yes indeed.
LOL
Good going Viggo – he is a smart man.
Uh. You do know they worked together in On The Road, right? Stupid comment is stupid.
This appears to be the better of the two Snow White projects.
Fully agree!
I wouldn’t be so quick to assess that. A love triangle/comedy/banter-heavy take on Snow White from the director of The Cell? Call me crazy, but that doesn’t sound promising, in fact, it sounds awful…. (The only thing that we can probably figure out is that the visuals will be gorgeous…)
He just has a regal, rich boy air about him makes him keep getting cast in these sort of roles.
That guy is hot.
Agree
Huh? Jose, you are a guy, right? You think ARMIE is hot? ???
Calm down, Nancy. There are those in the world who are attracted to people of the same sex. It’s not a new thing.
And he’s a great actor! He’s getting some great projects. I can’t believe he’s only 24. He has this gentleman-like quality about him that makes him seem much older.
Don’t forget the martial arts Snow White film Snow White and the Seven
Is that one live action or animated?
Live Action. The Dwarves will be samurai or ninja. I forget which.
i would have liked Saoirse Ronan as snow white. she is talented for her age. i am not really a fan of julia i always thought her brother eric was way more talented and way underrated. as for armie i like him and as for the director having seeing the cell and thinking it was pure garbage i am a bit worried
maybe they should cast eric as the evil queen, huh. stop being petty.
I heard the kissing scene between him and Leo Dicaprio was super hot in the new J. Edgar Hoover movie!
Boom! Roasted!
pretty good reason to see that movie:)
Armie Hammer=worst name ever.
it makes sense when you know his grand father is the founder of Arms n’ hammer… still bad name, but makes total sense
Yeah, I know why he’s named that, but I picture a box of baking soda everytime I hear his name!
WHAT?! Really? I had no idea!
I had no clue! Just looked it up and you’re right, his great grandfather was Armand Hammer, head of Arm and Hammer.
I noticed when I was watching The Social Network on DVD that Eisenberg (or it might be Timberlake) is wearing an Arm & Hammer T-shirt. I think it is in the scene where Eduardo has just slammed Zuckerburg’s computer down. I guess it was a little inside joke.
Alison Brie for Snow White!!
Totally, it is uncanny how much she looks like Snow White!
