He played a rock god in two hilarious comedies — Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek — and Russell Brand has long been rumored to be part of Adam Shankman’s plans for Rock of Ages, the star-studded rock musical starring Tom Cruise. At the Hollywood premiere of Hop, which opens April 1, Brand indicated that his involvement depended on scheduling, but that he was leaning towards joining Shankman’s band. “I have to make sure I see me wife [Katy Perry] enough, but if we can work out the schedule, then yeah, I want to do it,” Brand said, adding that such prospects looked good. “Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, rock music of the ’80s — you can’t go wrong. And I’ve already got the hair. I am way ahead of them on that account.”

Russell Brand should be playng Stacee Jaxx, not Tom Cruise.
Amen. I’m concerned that they’re going to make Stacee the main character rather than Drew/Sherry. Was kinda hoping to see Jack Black as Lonny.

I agree that Brand should portray Jaxx . I could also see James Marsden or Jeremy Renner ( surprisingly talented singer & pianist ) playing the part as well .

They should remake the Cher movie ‘Mask’ and cast this guy as Rocky Dennis. The resemblance is uncanny. He would only need minimal makeup.

no it’s not just you! lol i’ve been saying that to all my friends. i dont’ get his appeal. he’s not very funny, his act is about his sex life, thats it. all he does is talk about being married to katy perry and how he’s clean. that’s great and all but i don’t think being married to a pop star and having a lame comedic act should be garnering him all this attention in films.
If Russell is in than it helps some but still get rid of Cruise and Hough
Speaking for myself, I find Russell Brand quite annoying — his lame joke during the MTV VMA event; his lame-butt performance in Get Him to the Greek.
