Starting today at 1 p.m. ET, The Dark Knight won’t be the only Warner Bros. title available for rental on Facebook. The next five titles included in the studio’s experiment are Inception, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Life as We Know It, and Yogi Bear. “We’re pleased to expand our test with a variety of titles that will appeal to a broad audience,” Thomas Gewecke, President of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, said in the announcement. “These titles have substantial followings on Facebook. The Fan Pages for Harry Potter and Inception alone are two of the most popular and active communities on the site.” In care you’re curious: Inception has more than 6 million Facebook fans, while Life As We Know It, the Katherine Heigl-Josh Duhamel rom-com, has 214,766, and Yogi Bear has 161,031.
I’m willing to bet that “The Assination of Yogi Bear by the Coward BooBoo” has more ‘likes’ than the Yogi Bear movie itself.

you can’t watch Inception on a computer. I can assure it that you will not enjoy it. Inception’s magic was on the big screen.

The reality is this.
8 dollars gets you unlimited per month at Netflix verses 3 dollars to watch each movie on Facebook.
So I have to wait a couple of months. So what? There is always bittorrent.. This is stupid. And you guys are losing money like crazy with this internet stuff. Be reasonable.
The reality is this: There are a LOT of people using Facebook currency to buy tacky decorations for their virtual farms and other such nonsense. For those people that already have Facebook credits, watching a movie is going to be relatively convenient.
From what I have read, this all isn’t really about becoming a viable competitor of Netflix and Hulu. It’s about becoming a major force in online currency, competing with the likes of Paypal.
Wow Facebook has FIVE whole movies now! 3 of them I already own. Let me rush right over to facebook to download them.
Oh, wait. It takes me 3 minutes to upload one picture to Facebook on my month-old computer. That inspires a lot of confidence. I think I’ll pass and just watch Netflix.
