'Dolphin Tale' trailer: Already crying?

The trailer for Dolphin Tale – based on the true story of Winter the dolphin, who lost her tail and got a prosthetic one — is like an emotional assault. You start with Morgan Freeman, and we’re already vulnerable. Then there’s a dolphin, one of the most beloved creatures on the planet. Then the sensitive, soft-voiced Harry Connick Jr. A teary-eyed Ashley Judd. I assume a wounded soldier. Bad weather. A crying child. A grisly but tender Kris Kristofferson. The flashing of the words “From the studio and producers of The Blind Side.” And finally, a boy hugging a dolphin. Watch it below.

It got me . . . but I cry when I’ve got a remainder left when I’m doing long division!

I thought it was over over over the top cheese fest! With every single corny cliche in the book.

    • Yeah

I have to agree… Maybe it’s just the trailer that empasizes on this but all I could think of was “cheesy”…

I agree completely. Seems like a pretty cool story, but this trailer makes it look entirely too cheesy. I actually competed in a 30-inch pizza contest yesterday, so cheese is off-limits to me for awhile.

Whew – I made it through without any tears. I can’t say the same about the trailer for Disney’s “Born To Be Wild”.

“Grizzled” not “grisly.” But yeah – the boy hugging the dolphin got me!

  • Clair de Lune

well i cried from the beginning, probably because I knew it was gonna be sad. this looks like a netflixer to me

The wounded guy is not a solider. He was nearly paralyzed in a car accident and visited the dolphin following his recovery. All the stuff about the child is completely made up!

    • medialicious

The wounded guy is 100% a soldier.

      • crispy

Nope. You are wrong. Feel free to look it up yourself… “Brock Mealer lost his father, David, and the ability to walk when a 90-year-old driver ran a stop sign and crashed into his family’s SUV. Mealer was left paralyzed from the waist down.”

I’m talking about the wounded guy in the movie. The character of Kyle. Who is shown limping to see Winter and then puts his hand over her. His character is a soldier.

I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Oh good gawd, I cried from the moment I saw that poor little being on the beach trying to live. Was that U2 I heard?
What a beautiful movie. And timely, seeing as how BP and oil companies are in the news for murdering – YES it is murder- innocent marine life, including baby dolphins. Maybe it will remind humans that we as a species suck and need to try harder to respect the other beings we share this planet with.

Shane, you are right on target. All those people yelling that we animal lovers only care about animals and not people should remember this. If you save animals, you save the human race.

  • Hoobi

The thing that made cry was the info that it’s in 3D! Ohhh noooo *sob*!!!!

  • ziggy

add “unmistakable U2 guitar chords” to your list of tear jerking factors!

  • Guest

Nathan Gamble is the boy that stars in this movie. you need to give him credit!

  • medialicious

The song in the trailer is All Roads Lead Home by Golden State. They definitely have a U2ish sound.

  • megan

Years ago Steve Siebert’s shop, The Canvas Yard, was next door to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Steve spent time sewing custom items used to save marine mammals when he wasn’t doing custom marine canvas items. He spent hours in the aquariums with the injured dolphins and a baby whale. Steve even helped release the dolphin named Blondie back to deep water a few miles out in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Dolphin Tale movie has many similarities to Steve’s life. Steve began volunteering at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium after his wife had died of breast cancer. The marine mammals helped him through his grief.

What an irony that of the hundreds of sailboats reviewed for this movie that Steve’s boat was the one and only sailboat chosen to be featured in the movie and in the movie trailer (behind Kris Kristofferson).

Soon after I met Steve his life changed. We both sewed a few more items for the marine mammals. The boatyard where his shop was located was torn down to make room for condo’s that never got built. We got married and our Canvas Yard Shop got moved into our house. Steve had a new life with me and it was time for new people to experience the rewards of saving marine mammals.
