'Three Stooges' scoop: 'Glee' star Jane Lynch and 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' star Larry David wooed for roles

Larry David is talking with his old friends the Farrelly brothers about playing a role in their upcoming Three Stooges movie.

He’s got the right first name, and could certainly rock the hair-do, but he’s not in contention to play Larry the Stooge. (Anyway, that role has already been granted to Will & Grace‘s Sean Hayes.)

The Curb Your Enthusiasm star confirmed through a representative today that he is in the early stages of working out a role in the comedy, which follows the three dimwitted brothers as they eye-poke their way through various misadventures.

Everybody’s favorite Machiavellian cheerleading coach, Glee‘s Jane Lynch, has also signed on for a role in the movie, according to Fox. She will play Mother Superior, the nun who takes care of the troubled trio after they are unceremoniously dropped off at her orphanage as babies — already slapfighting with each other.

No word yet on who exactly David would play, but — it goes without saying — it wouldn’t be one of the knuckleheaded brothers.

Curly has already been cast, with $#*! My Dad Says star Will Sasso taking the part. Hayes is Larry, and Moe is the only one not yet taken, though Chris Diamantopoulos (24, The Starter Wife) is one of several candidates being considered.

Yea I feel the same way, I figured this would be a total disaster.

But Larry David can make anything funny.

Umm..the three brothers? Moe and Curly were the brothers and larry was just larry. The three stooges movie is a fail. Plus we already have a three stooges movie and its called “the hangover”

I can’t believe we’re getting so many casting updates about a once very intriguing sounding project before they went all D-list on the casting for the Stooges. A: The script sucks or B: The studio will not pay the quotes of A-list actors for a box office poison Farrely brothers movie. These guys peaked in 1997. They ran out of funny. I don’t understand why you’re hyping project like it’s the new Batman movie. This movie will be crappy bomb. Another notch in the Farrely’s crappy movie belt.

You are way too concerned about what movies are being made. Take a pill and go outside and play once in awhile…If i’m ever this upset about a 3 Stooges movie, I hope someone will put me out of my misery with a bullet to the brain. Luckily that won’t happen since I’m intelligent enough to know that I DON’T HAVE TO SEE MOVIES I’M NOT INTERESTED IN.

That being said, he still makes a good point.

    Oh boy, another Hollywood cluster-mess.

I would rather stick needles in my eyes than watch The Stooges unless they were played by Christian Bale, Matt Bomer, and Eric Bana or Edward Norton. Even then it would be iffy!

Although I wouldn’t mind watching Boston Rob Mariano smack Russell Hantz around!

Calling a Three Stooges movie “silly” would be charitable. The Three Stooges isn’t about “three bumbling brothers” (putting aside the actual relationship), it was about the actual guys who played them. This is why it never worked with Joe Besser or (and I’m firm on this) Curly Joe. It doesn’t work to get people to play the Three Stooges in anything but a biopic where the purpose is to tell their story, rather than recreate the act.

The three stooges? Why would I want to see a movie about Donald Trump, Charlie Scheen and Sarah Palin?

I do agree with all the ideas you’ve offered in your post. They are very convincing and can certainly work. Still, the posts are too short for newbies. Could you please prolong them a bit from next time? Thank you for the post.
