Perhaps it wasn’t the wisest choice to release the trailer for the eagerly anticipated film adaptation of One Day, out July 8, on the same day as the Royal Wedding, considering we’re all pretty much on romantic British people overload at this point. Nevertheless, the preview for the swoon-worthy dramedy, based on David Nicholls wonderful best-selling novel, hit the Web and it’s complete with a decades-spanning tale about heartache, friendships, weddings, babies, British accents, and bad 90′s haircuts. Just like the book, the movie will catch up on the same day every year (July 15 in the novel) with the will-they-or-won’t-they relationship between friends Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess). Good luck trying not to get choked up!

Jus saying.
They’re pretty good. But that’s all I like about her. And they risk overexposure in my opinion. She CANNOT resist taking her clothes off.
So horribly sad when Emma is riding her bike in the rain and gets hit by a car, dying in the process. But there’s no way an Americanized version of the novel will retain such an ending. It will most likely be sugarcoated and she’ll probably die of old age or something.
One: Spoiler alert for those that haven’t read the book yet (I have, but come on)
Two: Pretty sure this is not an Americanised anything. Anne is American. The movie is not.
Mike, you are a twit.
Mike, Hathaway and Clarkson are the only American thing about this.
Sturgess and Nicholls (author and screenwriter) is as English as they come and the director is Danish.
Seriously. I was going to go by the book. What the hey?!!!
wow….not cool – what is this your first day on the internet?
That is one horrible accent Anne.
the accent is not good
So uncomfortable. The movie looks sweet and I love the concept (haven’t read the book) but that accent is so…awkward. Patricia Clark looks like a babe though.
Not loving Anne with a british accent… but it looks a nice movie.
I read the book, it’s depressing for anyone under 40, specially if you’ve just graduated from uni
I’m glad someone else thinks this, I thought I was the only one. And I HATED the ending.
I was crying on the airplane when I read this book. The ending was so sad, I don’t think I could see the movie.
Yeah, I bought the book expecting a lovely travel read, and was furious for 90% of the book, including the ending.
Yeah, I’ll join in on the love of the book but absolute hatred of the ending. It pretty much undercuts all that came before.
Oh, I really couldn’t care less about the accents. We all know she’s not English, so who really cares? The trailer looks awesome, though! This is one of my favorite books and I’m so excited to see it onscreen!
Michael, the fact is that there is not just ONE English accent. She should be portraying someone with a Yorkshire accent (one of the most distinctive of all English dialects).
Love the book. Hate Anne’s accent.
I want to drink Anne’s bathwater.
what if she has really dry skin and pees in the bath? eww
For realsies, they couldn’t find ANY British actresses? Soooo sick of her and her accent is bad. Bad. Bad bad bad.
Good lord, all these “she’s overexposed” complains are so absurd. Nobody is taping needles to your eyelids/holding you at knifepoint, and forcing you to read, watch, or listen anything Anne Hathaway. You don’t like her? Don’t watch her films, don’t read articles, and don’t click on website articles about her. There, she immediately stops being overexposed to you.
Full stop.
Anne Hathaway & Patricia Clarkson should’ve done The Help instead of this. They can’t do British!
Yay, anything that brings Patricia Clarkson to the screen is alright with me!
Anne Hathaway is getting overexposed to the point of annoyance. It sounds like she honestly didn’t even try to research a decent accent or get a dialect coach. I get the cute, girl-next-door factor, but “fine actor” she is not …she’s in the right place at the right time, able to play the role of a 20/50 year old which a lot of finer younger actresses in Hollywood right now cannot pull off. I feel like this character is what her Princess Mia character would be like as an adult, had she not had the whole royalty thing happen to her.
Is it just me or was this trailer overplaying the sappiness factor? Or maybe I’m just running low on British romances. But I do have a feeling the movie will be good.
I’m not spoiling anything myself, but if anyone cares, the comment Alex made below apparently spoils the ending (of the book, at least). Just fyi.
Anne’s character gets hit by a car and dies after she gets married with dex. Although since its an american movie they will probably change the ending.
Really? You HAD to give away the ending? What a right cun’t you are.
LoL
agree with Bauer!!!! seriously why would you ever post the ending for those that havent read the book. IDIOT!!!!!
Alex, you are a twit as well.
I don’t like Ann Hathaway
That’s fine, cause Anne Hathaway is the actor in this movie!
Just thought I’d say Patricia Clarkson’s English accent sounds marvelous!
